Rocketboom, the popular daily video blog about "Internet Culture," is turning over its distribution and ad sales to Sony Pictures Television. According to TechCrunch, Rocketboom will get a seven-figure guarantee plus a share of revenues in return. TC points out that the deal does raise the question of whether web video startups require the distribution muscle of a major media company to go mainstream? Perhaps it's fair to add that, so far, no one has come up with a good system for monetizing online video. So, if your passion is creating online video and not running a company or selling ads, a deal like this (which allows you to stay independent) must be hard to pass up...

ABC News Parts Ways With "Rocketboom" Host Amanda Congdon

San Francisco - ABCNews.com will not renew a one-year contract with former "Rocketboom" video blog host Amanda Congdon, CNET News.com reported. Congdon countered in a blog posting that she was the one who ended the relationship with ABC News. Meanwhile, Congdon's former Web show Rocketboom -- now hosted by Joanne Colan -- on Monday announced a distribution deal with video-sharing network Blip.tv, and a sponsorship from the second season of Comedy Central's "The Sarah Silverman Program."

New York - Popular video blogger Amanda Congdon, who hosted the Rocketboom daily online video show before a dispute with a business partner ended her relationship with the show, has been hired by ABC to appear on its 24-hour digital news channel and network newscasts, Business Week reported.

Washington - The Washington Post on Thursday reported on the departure of the host of the popular video blog Rocketboom, which claims 300,000 viewers, up to $85,000 in ad sales weekly and distribution to TiVo and various cable video-on-demand services.
