Best Buy to Launch CinemaNow-Powered Download Service

Minneapolis, Minn. - Electronics and media retailer Best Buy (NYSE: BBY) announced on Tuesday that it will launch its own branded, on-demand movie and entertainment service, powered by Sonic Solutions' Roxio CinemaNow.

Novato, Calif. - Sonic Solutions (NASD: SNIC) said on Tuesday that it will offer 3D movies for download via its Roxio CinemaNow service, for playback on 3D-enabled PC monitors and televisions. The company is working to ensure compatibility with device's featuring Nvidia's (NASD: NVDA) graphics chips. In addition to compatible monitors, users will need a pair of modern plastic 3D glasses in order to properly view the films.

Roxio CinemaNow Adds Movie Rentals to Yahoo TV Widgets

Novato, Calif. - Sonic Solutions said on Monday that it plans to offer a Roxio CinemaNow widget, which will allow consumers with Internet-connected TVs running Yahoo TV Widgets to rent and purchase movies directly through their televisions.The application is slated for release in the fall.

Canada's Zip.ca Movie Rental Service Adds Roxio CinemaNow

Novato, Calif. - Sonic Solutions (NASD: SNIC) said on Friday that it has partnered with Canadian online video rental service Zip.ca, to make its Roxio CinemaNow download service available to Zip.ca subscribers. Zip.ca will offer movies and TV episodes that can be downloaded and watched on PCs; the service is also embedded on some consumer electronics.

Novato, Calif. - Sonic Solutions (NASD: SNIC), a provider of digital media software, said on Friday that its Roxio CinemaNow video-on-demand service will be available on select devices sold at retail store chain Best Buy (NYSE: BBY). Additionally, the on-demand movie service will now be available directly through BestBuy.com. The service was recently made available on Blu-ray Disc players from LG Electronics.
