Herndon, Va. - Ruckus, a provider of ad-supported online music streaming services on college campuses, has been shuttered by owner TotalMusic, which itself appears to be closing. According to TechCrunch, the site went down early Friday evening, replaced by a message reading, "Unfortunately the Ruckus service will no longer be provided."

Los Angeles - Legal download services are gaining traction among U.S. universities, as 15% already offer such a piracy-alternative while another 17% either plan to offer or are considering adding one, Ars Technica reported, citing a new survey from Educase, which represents campus IT professionals.

Herndon, Va. - Marking a major shift in strategy, Ruckus, a legal music downloading service aimed at college campuses, said on Monday that it will stop charging licensing fees to colleges and universities, instead making its service available for free to all students with valid ".edu" e-mail addresses.

Limelight Networks, a leading content delivery network for digital media, today announced that Jeffrey W. Lunsford has been named Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Directors. Lunsford will join Limelight on November 20th, succeeding founding CEO Bill Rinehart. Rinehart will remain with the company as co-founder and continue to work with Limelight's customers and partners. Lunsford joins Limelight from digital marketing and analytics firm WebSideStory, where is was CEO and Chairman.

Virginia-based Ruckus said it expects the size of its network to double before the end of the fall 2006 semester.

Herndon, Va. - Ruckus, a provider of campus media download services, announced on Monday that it has launched a new version of its service that offers students free access to its library of 1.5 million songs. In exchange for agreeing to receive advertising, the service's normal subscription fee will be waived for students; for an additional low subscription rate, access to movie and TV show downloads can be added. Virginia-based Ruckus offers its services to over 400,000 students at schools including USC, ASU and the University of Minnesota.

London - Ruckus Wireless, a provider of wireless digital video delivery over home networks, said on Monday that Ireland-based broadband provider Magnet Entertainment will deploy the company's wireless digital TV service. The Magnet service will offer 66 channels of IPTV in addition to video-on-demand that can be streamed over a wireless home network.

Herndon, Va. - Ruckus, a provider of digital entertainment services to college campuses, said that it has joined the Michigan-based Internet2 consortium, and will collaborate with other members to develop and test new content distribution and authentication technologies. The company said that its membership also will allow it to provide students at its 208 member universities faster access to its multimedia service, which allows schools to legally access and share a digital library of classroom-related multimedia.

Herndon, Va. - Ruckus, a provider of legal campus music and media download services, said on Wednesday that it has signed Michigan State University as a new client. Under the deal, Ruckus will provide a campus-wide multimedia network for the school's 45,000 students, faculty and staff. William Raduchel, the chairman and CEO of Ruckus, is an alumnus of Michigan State.

Herndon, Va. - Ruckus, a provider of legal campus music and media download services, announced on Tuesday that it has signed new agreements to offer its service on the campuses of Babson College, Wesleyan University and Bridgewater State College. More than 20 schools now offer the service, which allows users to join a social network, share playlists, and download music and movies.

Herndon, Va. -- Ruckus Network, a provider of legal digital entertainment services on college campuses, on Friday announced the launch of its network, with $9 million in funding from Battery Ventures and Shelter Capital Partners. The company announced the first schools to sign on as customers for its service are Alfred State College, Bentley College and Northern Illinois University. The Ruckus Network offers licensed movies and music, as well as a blend of national, local and university content. The company said it has licensed tracks from Universal Music Group, Sony BMG, Warner and independent labels Sanctuary and IODA, and is in discussions with other labels and movie distributors. "The student demographic is the single largest consumer of digital media with unequalled access to broadband and computing power, said Ruckus CEO William Raduchel. "Yet surprisingly, they've had to resort to cumbersome and often illegal solutions to get their digital entertainment."
