Ruckus Network Lands $10 Million in Second Round

Herndon, Va. - Ruckus Network, a provider of digital entertainment services to more than 900 college campuses, said on Thursday that it has raised $10 million in its second round of funding, co-led by new investors Anschutz Investment and Columbia Capital.

Penn State Dumps Napster for Ruckus Campus Download Service

University Park, Pa. - Penn State University recently announced that it will end its relationship with Napster at the end of May, and has instead signed with rival Ruckus Network to provide a campus digital entertainment service, starting in the fall. The service will give students access to a library of 2.75 million songs, as well as movies and short-form videos, and a social network. "Napster helped Penn State greatly in taking a bold and ultimately successful step, but we believe the new Ruckus service will provide greater flexibility for the university marketplace going forward," said Penn State president Graham Spanier.

Ruckus Taps Tremor Media for Streaming Video Ads

Herndon, Va. - Ruckus Network, a provider of legitimate campus music and entertainment download services, announced on Monday that it has partnered with Tremor Media to serve video ads to users of its service. The deal will allow Ruckus to integrate targeted video ads into its content library, which includes 2.7 million songs, as well as 4,500 movies and videos.

Ruckus, Merit to Offer Free Digital Music Services at Michigan Colleges

Herndon, Va. - Ruckus Network, a provider of legal campus media download services, announced on Thursday an agreement with Merit Network, which provides broadband access in Michigan colleges, to offer the Ruckus service for free to Michigan college students. Virginia-based Ruckus provides its multimedia download service, which features a library of more than 2.1 million songs and videos, at more than 100 colleges and universities -- including Princeton, Brown and UC Berkeley.
