Irvine, Calif. - Vivendi's Blizzard Entertainment game publishing unit announced on Tuesday that "World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade," the first expansion to its massively multiplayer online game, broke the day-one sales record to become the fastest-selling PC game ever in North America and Europe.

Redmond, Wash. - Microsoft has sold a total of six million Xbox 360 video game consoles since the product's release nearly a year ago, according to first quarter results. The company expects to have shipped 10 million units worldwide by the end of 2006. Microsoft also narrowed losses at the division which includes its Xbox business, from $173 million in the first quarter of 2005 to $96 million in the same period this year.

Tokyo – In November Sony and Nintendo will roll out their newest gaming devices, the PlayStation 3 (PS3) and Wii, both of which will compete directly with Microsoft’s Xbox 360. “The PS3 will have a tough time globally at the initial stage,” Enterbrain President Hirokazu Hamamura told a seminar. “Its launch titles in Japan and exclusive software titles overseas are quite limited. But its overwhelmingly realistic graphics will give it a long life span. It will stay competitive even when a game console battle breaks out among a newer generation of machines in 2010. Sales should grow every time Sony cuts prices,” he said.
