Waltham, Mass. - Peppercoin, a developer of online micropayments technology, has raised an additional $2 million in its second round of venture capital, led by Wall Street Technology Partners, bringing the total raised in the round to $10 million. Other investors in the deal include Total Technology Ventures, Pod Holding and an undisclosed, Boston-based institutional investment adviser. Expresso Fitness Raises $4.5 Million in Second Round

Sunnyvale, Calif. -- Expresso Fitness, a developer of interactive software for virtual reality cardio fitness systems, said on Friday that it has raised $4.5 million in its second round of venture capital funding, led by Enterprise Partners Venture Capital. Expresso Fitness provides networked and interactive software and cardio equipment for the fitness industry, allowing users of fitness equipment to compete against or play with others. The company's initial product, the Spark fitness bike, debuted in March, and is now being installed in clubs on both coasts. Expresso also said that it is in discussions to license its software to major equipment manufacturers. "The additional capital… will allow us to step up production and delivery of our initial product line and accelerate deployment of our interactive multiplayer gaming technology into other types of cardio fitness products," said Brian Button, the co-founder and CEO of Expresso Fitness.

StreamBase Systems Raises $11 Million in Second Round

Lexington, Mass. -- StreamBase Systems, a developer of software for processing high-performance streaming applications, has raised $11 million in its second round of venture capital, led by Bessemer Venture Partnersand Highland Capital Partners. StreamBase Systems, which was formally known as Grassy Brook, was founded in 2003 to commercialize a software platform developed by a team of 30 professors and students from M.I.T., Brown University and Brandeis University. The company's initial product version was delivered to early adopter customers in 2004 in the financial services industry.

Microdrive Developer Cornice Raises $51 Million in Second Round

Longmont, Colo. -- Cornice, a developer of small hard disk drives for consumer electronics like MP3 players, announced on Wednesday that it has raised $51 million in its second round of venture capital financing. Participating in the round were new investors BA Venture Partners and GIC Special Investments, as well as previous investors CIBC Capital Partners, Nokia Venture Partners and VantagePoint Venture Partners. Colorado-based Cornice offers 1.5GB and 2GB disks that are one-inch in diameter, and have been used in MP3 players and other devices from consumer electronics firms including Philips and Samsung. The company, which has raised $81 million to date, will use the new funds to support sales, development and manufacturing initiatives.

Online Learning Firm K12 Raises $20 Million in Second Round

McLean, Va. -- K12, a provider of technology-oriented educational services, said on Thursday that it has raised $20 million in its second round of funding, led by Constellation Ventures. The company, which was co-founded in 1999 by Bill Bennett, the former U.S. Secretary of Education, said that it will use the funding to expand and improve its curriculum, as well as to make its content available to more students in schools across the nation. K12 provides its academic program to many "virtual" on-line schools and programs.

Wireless Video Chipmaker Magis Adds $3 Million to Second Round

San Diego -- Magis Networks, a developer of wireless chipsets for delivering video and audio, announced that it has added a $3 million investment from display manufacturer ViewSonic to its second round of funding, which now totals $48 million. Announced in April 2002, the round's other investors included AOL Time Warner Ventures, Hitachi, Motorola, Panasonic, Sanyo, Vulcan Inc., Bay Partners, Crescendo Ventures, WK Technology Fund and China Development Industrial Bank. San Diego-based Magis Networks' chips use 802.11a wireless technology to deliver multiple, simultaneous streams of video, and may be utilized in products including set-tops, gateways, satellite receivers, TVs, PCs and digital camcorders.

Switzerland's BridgeCo Wins $13.3 Million In Second Round

Zurich -- BridgeCo, a developer of entertainment network adapters (ENAs) based on embedded, secure software, said it has secured $13.3 million in second round funding. Principal investors are Benchmark Capital, Earlybird, Infineon Ventures and Intel Capital. BridgeCo CEO Christof Heidelberger said the funds will be used to aid the continued expansion of the market for ENAs.
