Report: SeeqPod in Buyout Talks With Apple Competitor

Emeryville, Calif. - SeeqPod, the bankrupt streaming MP3 search engine currently being sued for copyright infringement by several major labels, went offline over the weekend but is reportedly close to announcing a buyout by "a large media company" that is "a competitor to Apple," according to MP3Newswire. SeeqPod CEO Kasian Franks told MP3Newswire that the site is offline because it is "in the process of moving a few servers due to an acquisition by a media company."

San Francisco - SeeqPod, the provider of a search engine that indexes streaming songs across the Internet, is looking to sell its source code to third-party developers as a means to ensure its technology lives on in the face of pending copyright litigation from the major record labels, Wired.com reported. "This just goes to show that when you sue technology -- or the internet -- you unleash a powerful demon technology," a SeeqPod spokesman, who asked no to be named, told Wired.com. "Imagine, millions of mini-SeeqPods -- and the world will be a better place for it."

EMI Sues Seeqpod, Favtape for Copyright Infringement

London - Major record label EMI and its Capitol Records subsidiary have filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against Seeqpod, the provider of a service that lets users search for streaming songs online and create customized streaming playlists, and Favtape, another similar service, VentureBeat reported. EMI also filed suit against Seeqpod founder and CEO Kazian Franks, as well as company investors Raf Podowski and Shekhar Lodha, and Favtape developer Ryan Sit. The lawsuits seek billions of dollars in damages.

Record Labels Sue Music Stream Aggregator Project Playlist

New York - Divisions of three of the four major record labels on Monday filed copyright infringement lawsuits against Project Playlist, a site that lets users create playlists from streaming songs served from all over the Internet, Reuters reported. For its part, Project Playlist maintains that it does not host any music files, but instead merely links to files on many third-party sites, including many on record label websites.

Gimado Gets $300,000 for Music Search Engine

Los Angeles - Gimado, the operator of a search engine for streaming and downloadable music files, has landed $300,000 in seed funding from an undisclosed investors, Mashable.com reported.

Warner Music Sues Streaming Song Search Engine Seeqpod

New York - Major record label Warner Music Group (NYSE: WMG) has filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against Seeqpod, an online music service that provides links to streaming music files hosted on third-party sites, Silicon Alley Insider reports. Warner claims the service links to sites with unauthorized files.
