Shanda Sued by Player Over Loss of Virtual Game Items

Shanghai, China - Chinese online game operator Shanda (NASD: SNDA) has been sued for around $14,000 by a player who blames the company for the loss of 31 virtual items that have disappeared from his account over the past year, Pacific Epoch reported, citing a post by People.com.cn.

Shanghai, China - Chinese online game operator Shanda Interactive Entertainment said on Monday that it has acquired the exclusive rights from Japanese game developer Tecmo, to operate the firm's "DOA Online" in mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao. Tecmo's Lievo Studio will develop the online version of "Dead or Alive," slated to launch next year.

Shanda to Operate "TalesRunner" 3D Online Running Game in China

Shanghai, China - Chinese online game publisher Shanda Interactive Entertainment said it has signed an exclusive license with Korean distributor Nowcom, to operate Korean developer Rhaon Entertainment's "TalesRunner" 3D online sports-themed running game in mainland China. The title, which recently recorded over 80,000 peak concurrent users in Korea, is slated to launch in China in the third quarter.

San Jose, Calif. - Networking equipment maker Cisco Systems said in an SEC filing that it has indirectly purchased a 9.7% stake in Shanda Interactive Entertainment, an operator of online games in China, for about $104 million. Shanda operates online games including "The Legend of Mir" and "Ragnarok Online." The company also partnered with Intel on a PC-based entertainment system called the EZ Pod, which features access to video games, a Web browser, and music downloads from providers including EMI Music.

Actoz is co-owner of the copyright for "The Legend of Mir II," currently the most popular online game in China. The company also granted the unnamed purchaser the option to purchase an addition $75 million in notes, due to mature in Oct. 2014. Shanghai-based Shanda provides infrastructure for online games and develops its own massively multiplayer titles, including "The Legend of Mir II," "Tactical Commanders," "The World of Legend" and "The Age."

Shanghai, China -- Shanda Interactive Entertainment, a provider of online games in China, announced that it has signed an agreement to acquire the remaining interest in mobile game developer Beijing Digital-Red Mobile Software (Digital-Red) that it did not already own. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Founded in 2000, Digital-Red has developed over 200 games to date. Shanda says that its online games were played by an average of 1.2 million concurrent users during the second quarter of 2004.
