China's Shanda to Spin-off Games Unit in Nasdaq IPO

Shanghai - China's Shanda Interactive Entertainment (NASD: SNDA) this week announced plans to spin-off its games unit with an initial public offering (IPO) on the Nasdaq. Reuters reports that the company aims to raise as much as $800 million in the offering, proceeds from which will be used to fund acquisitions and joint ventures, and for capital expenditures.

Shanda Invests in Two Chinese Online Game Communities

Shanghai - Chinese online games purveyor Shanda Interactive Entertainment said that its Shanda Games unit has made investments in two online gaming community operators, Shanghai Wei Lai and Shanghai Cai Qu.

THQ, Shanda to Develop Online Version of "Company of Heroes"

Agoura Hills, Calif. - Video game publisher THQ on Thursday announced an agreement with Chinese online game operator Shanda Interactive Entertainment, to co-develop and publish an online-only version of Relic Entertainment's "Company of Heroes" game. "Company of Heroes Online" is slated for release in mainland China in 2008; THQ and Shanda said they will share benefits of the game's potential release outside that region.
