FreeHand Systems Acquires Electronic Courseware Systems

Los Altos, Calif. - FreeHand Systems, a Los Altos-based provider of digital sheet music products and services, said on Monday that it has completed its acquisition of Illinois-based Electronic Courseware Systems (ECS), a privately held computer software developer and publisher of music and music education products. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

New York - The New York Times on Monday reported on websites offering free guitar tablature -- a means of notating music that uses numbers on the fret board instead of traditional notes -- that have lately become the targets of copyright lawsuit threats from music publishers.

Digital Sheet Music Firm FreeHand Raises $550,000 in New Funding

Los Altos, Calif. - FreeHand Systems, a provider of digital sheet music products and services, said on Thursday that it has raised $550,000 in a new round of private funding. The company said that the money came in the form of a direct private investment. Los Altos, Calif.-based FreeHand is the manufacturer of a digital music tablet, which includes technology to display and publish digitally delivered sheet music. The company also operates a web site that offers more than 85,000 titles for digital download, which can then be transferred to the tablet.

Musicnotes to Sell Digital Sheet Music for Sony/ATV

Madison, Wisc. - Musicnotes, a provider of online sheet music with a library of nearly 50,000 works, announced on Monday that it has signed an agreement to add compositions controlled by Sony/ATV Music Publishing to its service.
