Gannett To Lay Off 1,400, Digital Units Safe

New York - Newspaper publisher Gannett Co. (NYSE: GCI), owner of USA Today and dozens other newspapers, plans to cut 1,400 jobs in the next few weeks, as a result of decreased advertising revenue.

Gannett Acquires ShopLocal from Tribune, McClatchy

McLean, Va. - Gannett (NYSE: GCI), the media company that publishes USA Today, said on Tuesday that it has acquired Chicago-based marketing and database services firm ShopLocal though separate deals with owners Tribune (NYSE: TXA) and McClatchy (NYSE: MNI).
