The stats are in for the much-hyped Cyber-Monday and compared to Cyber-Monday in 2005, the Hitwise Retail 100 Index is up 13.3% for yesterday (11/27/06). As we've seen for the fourth year running (as represented in the chart below), Thanksgiving Day remains the peak day for retail traffic in market share of visits.Google Checkout Update - Visits up 158% Last WeekAuthored by Jay Baage on November 28, 2006 - 8:55am.
The following is a blog entry from LeeAnn Prescott at Hitwise: Here's a quick update on Google Checkout, which I posted about last week. The market share of visits to Google Checkout was up 158% for the week ending 11/25/06 versus the week ending 11/18/06. ToysRus, which is showing the $10 off $30 purchase offer on the home page, was the leading site sending traffic to Google Checkout, accounting for 24% of its upstream visits for the week ending 11/25/06. Google is making a huge effort to sign up users during the busiest online shopping period of the year, and the $10 off $30 purchase appears to be working. While it still has a long way to go to catch Paypal in terms of visits, Paypal's lead was cut in half in just one week: last week I reported that Paypal's market share was 96X Google Checkout for the week ending 11/18/06 - this week Paypal was 38X Google Checkout in terms of market share.

According to Patti Freeman Evans, an analyst with JupiterResearch, online sales will reach $100 billion dollars this year for the first time, and will constitute 6% of total merchandise sales this holiday season. Riya co-founder and CEO Munjal Shah said he loves crowded spaces. "That's where the money is. That's why they're crowded."

A survey of 3,600 Internet users across China, Hong Kong, India, Korea, Malaysia and Singapore found that over the past year, the number of online gamers has eclipsed the number of online shoppers in each country. In China, 43 percent of those online play games, compared to only 16 percent who said they shop.
