London - U.K. broadcaster Channel 4 announced that it has signed a deal with Disney/ABC's Buena Vista International Television that will bring episodes of "Lost" and "Desperate Housewives" to both its website and video-on-demand system. Channel 4 will offer two seasons of "Lost" in HD and the second season of "Desperate Housewives" on video-on-demand services from cable TV firm ntl/Telewest. The "Lost" episodes will also be available for 24-hour download via Windows Media Player from Channel 4's website. All episodes will cost 99 pence (about $1.25) each.

New York - NBC this week premiered its new prime time legal drama "Conviction" on Apple's iTunes Store, offering a free download of the series' hour-long pilot episode. The pilot will remain available until the show's network television premiere on March 3; future episodes will be sold on iTunes for $1.99 each on the day after they first air on television. "We believe we have a youthful and energetic cast that should appeal to a new audience increasingly comfortable with this downloadable format as a viewing option, and we want to reach out to these viewers," NBC Entertainment Group CEO Jeff Zucker told The Hollywood Reporter.

Los Angeles - The new version of shock jock Howard Stern's show on Sirius Satellite Radio, which costs $12.95 per month to hear as part of a Sirius subscription, has begun appearing on free file-sharing networks, The Los Angeles Times reported on Thursday. BayTSP, a file-sharing network monitoring firm, says it has found digital audio files of Stern's show on every major file-sharing network. "We don't condone the stealing of Howard's show, or any of the content on our more than 125 channels," Sirius spokesman Patrick Reilly told the Times. "We vigorously protect our intellectual property rights and we will actively prosecute those who attempt to steal it." Sirius has sent cease-and-desist letters to websites offering streamed broadcasts of Stern's show, and also informed the FCC of pirate radio stations that have cropped up to simulcast the satellite broadcasts.

Paris -- As of next season, U.K. broadcasters ITV and BSkyB will have to broadcast Champions League soccer games on the Internet under the terms of a new directive released on Tuesday by UEFA, the European football association. If, as expected, the broadcasters renew their contracts to share live rights to the games, they will be "obliged" by UEFA to broadcast all matches simultaneously on the Internet, football officials said. The unprecedented announcement is seen as a response to pressure from the European Commission, which wants to see rights owners encouraging mobile phone and Internet usage. Although UEFA has allowed online highlights and delayed broadcasts in the past, it has never permitted full live coverage of games on the Internet.
