Netscape Founder Marc Andreessen Outlines Plans For $300 Million VC Company

Silicon Valley - Marc Andreessen and long-time business partner Ben Horowitz have raised $300 million in fresh capital to form a new venture capital company called “Andreessen Horowitz.” The focus of all investments will be “new” business model areas, including consumer internet, cloud computing and consumer electronics. The company will also invest in some B2B-plays, such as virtualization and cloud storage.

One of the challenges that geeks, inventors, hobbyists, hackers, burners, and artists who are trying to change the world face is finding a place to do their work. Ideally, it would have lots of equipment, supplies, and other geeks. Until the last year, they would have to set up their own workshop or beg for space at a machine shop. Now they can go and hang out at TechShop in Menlo Park, California.

Which is better, San Francisco or the warmer but geekier Silicon Valley? Valleywag takes a crack at a mac ad parody. It's funny so it gets embed, but seriously, enough of these Mac vs PC spoofs now, YouTube has like a million of them and most stink.
