Microblogging Firm Pownce Acquired by Six Apart, Shut Down

San Francisco - Pownce, a microblogging and file-sharing service created by Digg founder Kevin Rose, announced on Monday that it has been acquired by Six Apart, developers of blogging tools including Vox, Movable Type and TypePad, for an undisclosed sum.

Facebook Unveils Facebook Connect Data Portability Feature

San Francisco - Online social network Facebook has introduced Facebook Connect, which allows outside websites and applications to share data back and forth. The company launched the new feature with 24 partners, including Digg, Movable Type creators Six Apart and Citysearch. The feature allows, for instance, Facebook users to sign in to Digg with their Facebook account authentication, and to have news stories they select via Digg, or comments they leave on Movable Type blogs to show up in their Facebook news feeds.

San Francisco - Six Apart, the company behind blog publishing services TypePad, Movable Type and Vox, announced on Monday that it has acquired Apperceptive, a New York-based provider of social media consulting and development services.

Six Apart Sells LiveJournal Blog Network to Russia's SUP

San Francisco - Six Apart, a provider of blogging software and services and operator of the LiveJournal network of blogs, has announced a sale of LiveJournal to Russian media firm SUP. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

San Francisco - Six Apart, a provider of blogging software and services under the LiveJournal brand, said on Thursday that it has launched 33 new "widgets" capable of putting new interactive features into blogs. Some of the features include job searching, game playing, weather tracking and photo sharing. A widget is a little piece of content or functionality developed by a third party that can be installed on the siderail of a blog.

San Francisco -- Six Apart, a San Francisco-based maker of tools for weblogging, said on Thursday that it has acquired Oregon-based Danga Interactive, operators of the popular service LiveJournal, for an undisclosed amount of stock and cash. With the acquisition, Six Apart said that thre acquisition solidifies its status as the industry's largest independent provider of weblogging tools. The companies said that their combined user base exceeds 6.5 million users. LiveJournal, an online community organized around personal journals, has helped fuel the rapid growth of weblogging by offering consumers both free and paid subscriptions to its personal publishing blogging tool, built on open source software. LiveJournal will continue to operate as a separate division.

Weblog Software Provider Six Apart Acquires Ublog, Names CEO

San Mateo, Calif. -- Looking to further build its international presence, Six Apart, a maker of weblog software, said that it has acquired Ublog, a provider of one of Europe's most popular blogging tools and hosting services. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Ublog has served as the exclusive agent for San Mateo, Calif.-based Six Apart in Europe over the last six months. Already deployed in France and Spain, SixApart's TypePad service will be launched in Germany next week, and in the UK by this fall. Six Apart also said that it has added several top executives, including Barak Berkowitz, its chairman and CEO. Berkowitz, the former co-founder and president of OmniSky, has been the company's acting CEO for the past six months.
