Slacker Releases Second-Generation Personal Radio Player

San Diego - Slacker on Tuesday released its second-generation personal radio player device, which automatically downloads and continuously refreshes thousands of personally-selected songs and turns them into personalized radio stations. Users can choose from more than 100 Slacker-programmed stations, 10,000 artist stations, or create their own custom stations. The Slacker G2 Personal Radio Player is available for $199.99 (25 Stations, 4GB) and $249.99 (40 stations, 8GB).

Slacker Signs Music Publishers for Interactive Radio Service

San Diego - Slacker, the maker of a portable music player and corresponding radio service, announced on Tuesday that it has signed agreements with EMI Music Publishing, Sony/ATV Music Publishing (NYSE: SNE), Universal Music Publishing Group and Warner/Chappell Music (NYSE: WMG), which will allow users to transfer songs from its online radio service to Slacker portable players. The company said the deals were completed before it launched its Slacker Portable hit the market in November. Slacker lets users create interactive radio stations; songs from the stations are then periodically updated on the portable player. A premium version that allows users to permanently store songs is also available starting at $7.50 per month.

New York - Slacker, a provider of personalized Web radio and a complementary portable player, said on Wednesday that it has partnered with Spin magazine on a custom radio station for the cover story of its October issue on punk music. The Spin Punk station will include cover art and artist profiles.

Slacker Licenses All Majors, Top Indie Labels for Music Service

San Diego - Slacker, the developer of a Wi-Fi-enabled portable media player and corresponding personal radio service, announced on Thursday that it has signed deals to license tracks from major labels EMI, Universal Music and Warner Music for its service. The company, which already had a deal in place with Sony BMG, also signed with independents including Beggars Group, Matador, IRIS, Ubiquity and Sanctuary. San Diego-based Slacker currently only offers a beta version of its free, ad-supported basic online service, which features 100 pre-programmed stations and also lets users create their own. The company has yet to launch its Wi-Fi player, or a planned premium version of its online service.

San Diego - Slacker, a digital music start-up whose products include a Web radio service and satellite- and Wi-Fi-enabled portable player, has raised $13.5 million in its first round of venture capital, from Sevin Rosen, Austin Ventures and Mission Ventures, VentureBeat reported.
