Sling Media Introduces 3 New TV "Place-Shifting" Slingbox Models

San Mateo, Calif. - Sling Media, a developer of "place-shifting" devices that allow users to access premium home TV channels, recorded programs and other content while away from home via any broadband-connected device, on Thursday introduced three new models of its Slingbox device. The $249 Slingbox Pro features HD support, and the ability to beam content from a digital video recorder, satellite/cable box, DVD player, multi-disc changer or video camera to an outside location. The $179 Slingbox AV drops support for HD, and connections to DVD players or video cameras; while the Slingbox TUNER, also $179, allows users to connect via a cable modem and access premium channels and recorded programs while away without interfering with other home TVs.

Scandinavian TV Provider Viasat to Offer Slingbox

San Mateo, Calif. - Sling Media, a developer of devices that allow users to view their premium home TV channels while away on Internet-connected devices, announced on Tuesday that its Slingbox product is now being offered by Viasat, the largest free and pay-TV operator in Scandinavia and the Baltics.

Applian Changes Name, Adds Features to Slingbox-Recording Application

San Anselmo, Calif. - Applian Technologies said on Tuesday that it has changed the name of its PC software that can capture TV programs viewed away from the home through Sling Media's Slingbox device, in order to avoid trademark confusion in the marketplace.
