San Francisco - Research in Motion, maker of the BlackBerry mobile device, announced that it has launched an optimized application for use with the Facebook online social network. The application will automatically push Facebook messages, Wall posts or pokes to a user's BlackBerry, as well as allow users to post photos to Facebook. T-Mobile USA will be the first carrier to provide the new application, which will also be offered for download from Facebook. Houston - Modeo, a unit of Crown Castle International, on Monday announced the launch of a beta test of its live mobile TV service in New York City. In development for three years, the Modeo service will deliver live video content from providers including Discovery Channel and Fox News to Modeo Mobile TV Smartphones. Los Angeles - Handango, a provider of content for smartphones, announced on Tuesday that it has raised over $60 million in a new round of venture capital financing, led Institutional Venture Partners. Other investors included Advanced Technology Ventures, Centerpoint, Neo Carta, Pharos Capital Group and SSM Partners. Hurst, Texas-based Handango provides smartphone content from more than 16,000 content partners to firms including Motorola, Nokia, Samsung, RIM, HP, Verizon, T-Mobile, Microsoft and AOL. The company will use the funds for global expansion, support for new types of content and establishment of new distribution channels. Strategy Analytics projects there will by 350 million smartphone users by 2009, up from 68 million in 2005.

Sunnyvale, Calif. - Yahoo announced on Wednesday that it has made its Yahoo Go for Mobile service available to users of Windows Mobile-powered cell phones. The service includes mobile versions of Yahoo's e-mail, search, photos, address book and news software and services.
