Economics 101 says that when there's a demand, there should be supply. That is exactly what's happening with virtual item exchange. For those who don't follow the game market, virtual item exchange means using real-world currency to purchase virtual items. For instance, a player of World of Warcraft could buy a special sword from another player for $5 and enhance his gaming experience and a player of Second Life could acquire a virtual castle for her avatar for $1,000.

Quincy Smith has been named President of the newly formed division CBS Interactive, it was announced today by Leslie Moonves, President and Chief Executive Officer of CBS Corporation. In this role, Smith will work in tandem with each CBS division to formulate new media strategies and partnerships involving all interactive platforms, including Internet, mobile and video gaming. Reporting to Smith will be the wide variety of interactive media company-wide, including: CBS SportsLine.com, CBSNews.com and CBS.com, as well as the new video site Innertube.

Indianapolis, Ind. - Sony Online Entertainment (SOE), the company's online games unit that operates massively multiplayer titles like "EverQuest" and "PlanetSide," announced on Thursday that it has acquired key assets of World Apart Productions, a developer of online trading card games.

San Diego - Sony Online Entertainment on Monday shipped its "Field Commander" title for Sony PSP to retailers. Developed and published by SOE, the title features multiplayer gameplay enabled by the PSP's Wi-Fi connectivity feature.

Sony Online Entertainment at Work on "EverQuest II" Expansions

San Diego - Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) announced on Wednesday that it is at work on two expansion packs for its "EverQuest II" massively multiplayer online roleplaying game. The expansion pack "Echoes of Faydwer" will be released on Nov. 14 for $39, while the adventure pack "The Fallen Dynasty" will be released in June for $7.99, or at no cost to subscribers to SOE's Station Access service.
