Sonic Solutions Buys PhotoShow Developer Simple Star

Novato, Calif. - Sonic Solutions (NASD: SNIC), a provider of digital media software, announced on Tuesday that it has acquired the assets of Simple Star, the developer of PhotoShow, an application that lets users create multimedia files from photos and videos.

CinemaNow Adds Ability to Burn Downloaded Films, TV to DVD

Marina del Rey, Calif. - CinemaNow, an Internet movie and TV show download service, announced on Tuesday that it has partnered with Sonic Solutions (NASD: SNIC) to add the ability for consumers to burn downloaded purchases from its service to DVD. The movie industry recently approved such technology, which uses special DVD drives and recordable discs. CinemaNow said its content library will also be available within Sonic's movie download application, Roxio Venue, which is distributed through Sonic's partnerships with PC makers offering machines equipped with the special DVD burners.

Novato, Calif. - Sonic Solutions, a developer of digital media software, said that the Nasdaq Listing and Hearing Review Council has decided to stay a previous decision that gave the company until Friday to file past-due financial statements, or face delistment. Novato, Calif.-based Sonic's shares will remain listed on the Nasdaq Global Select Market pending a review.

TiVo Extends TiVoToGo Service to Mac Users

Las Vegas - TiVo announced on Monday that it has expanded the availability of its TiVoToGo service to Mac users. Through a partnership with software developer Roxio, a unit of Sonic Solutions, TiVo users will now be able to transfer their recorded shows to watch on a Mac. TiVoToGo for the Mac will be available later this month for $99. Separately, TiVo said it has partnered with Music Choice, a provider of digital music programming to cable TV providers. Under the deal, TiVo will offer Music Choice's library of music videos and original video programming to TiVo subscribers via the broadband TiVoCast service, beginning later this year.

Los Angeles - The AP reported today that Hollywood studios have approved a new technology and licensing approach that would make it easier for consumers to burn movies purchased digitally over the Internet onto a DVD that will play everywhere. Introduced today, the solution - named Qflix and developed by Sonic Solutions – provides a standard digital lock to DVDs burned in a computer or a retail kiosk.

The platform will merge Macrovision's RipGuard and ACP technologies with Sonic's DVD On Demand, enabling websites and retail kiosks to produce DVDs that feature the same encryption found on mass-produced DVDs.

Novato, Calif. - Sonic Solutions, a developer of digital media software, announced on Friday that it has been awarded several new patents related to advanced interactivity technology for the next-generation Blu-ray and HD DVD formats. The patented technology covers the updating or augmenting of multimedia content on the forthcoming DVD formats. Another patent covers "virtual theater" technology that lets multiple users simultaneously view and interact with a live or archived video event.

Las Vegas -- Sonic Solutions, a provider of professional and consumer DVD creation software, announced on Wednesday that it is developing systems for professional production of both HD DVD and Blu-ray next-generation high-capacity DVDs by Hollywood movie studios. Novato, Calif.-based Sonic said its HD DVD authoring system will be available in the summer of 2005. The company partnered with Japan's Matsushita (Panasonic) to develop a Blu-ray authoring system, but did not provide a timetable as to when the system would be available to movie studios. Both HD DVD, developed by Toshiba, and Sony's Blu-ray format will boost the capacity for DVDs beyond the current standard 4.5GB to up to 50GB per disc, enabling storage of high-definition video.

DVD Creation Software Maker Sonic Solutions Raises $23.8 Million

Novato, Calif. -- Sonic Solutions, a provider of DVD creation and editing software, announced on Wednesday that it will raise $23.8 million through a public offering of 1.3 million shares of its stock at $19.48 per share. Novato, Calif.-based Sonic Solutions' products have been licensed by firms including Adobe, AOL, Microsoft and Sony, and ship on PCs and disk drives from makers such as Toshiba, Sharp, Pioneer, TDK, Memorex and Philips. The company will use the proceeds of the stock sale for general corporate purposes and to fund general working capital requirements.
