New York - Viacom's (NYSE: VIA) male-focused Spike TV cable network this week announced plans to launch a number of new original Web series as part of the re-launch of its website on Friday. The site features a new full episode player with comment, sharing and embedding capabilities for a number of Spike TV shows, and will offer original Web series including "The Crew," "James Rolfe -- Cinemassacre," "The MMA Girls" and a series that will be co-produced with Playboy.com. New York - Viacom's (NYSE: VIA) MTV Networks on Wednesday announced a talent and development deal with video game journalist Geoff Keighley, the host of Spike TV's "Game Head," which launches its fifth season this week under the new title, "GameTrailers TV with Geoff Keighley." Keighly was named executive producer of the new show, and also entered into a development deal with Spike TV to create additional on-air programming, host a number of specials, and consult on its annual awards show. Los Angeles - Viacom's Spike TV network plans to debut a new series, "The Kill Point," that will be accompanied by an online episodic multiplayer game updated with each week's new episode, Variety reported. The game was developed by Kuma Games, which has also created an episodic game for the History Channel and maintains its own "KumaWar" title that takes plotlines from U.S. military battles. "Kill Point," which stars John Leguizamo and Donnie Wahlberg on opposite sides of a foiled bank heist, premieres on Spike TV on Sunday. New York - Viacom's MTV Entertainment Group said this week that it plans to fold its iFilm unit into its Spike TV brand, and launch a new version of SpikeTV.com that will incorporate iFilm's broad-based online viral videos and Spike TV's broadband and TV assets. As a result, iFilm president and CEO Blair Harrison will leave iFilm, and is currently exploring other options within MTV Networks. Las Vegas - Viacom's Spike TV cable network announced on Wednesday the launch of Spike Mobile, which will offer short-form video clips of Spike TV programs. The company also announced that it partnered with mobile virtual network operator Amp'd Mobile, to provide a live streaming broadcast of an Ultimate Fighting Championship event to Amp'd Mobile subscribers' cell phones. During breaks in the broadcast, Spike intends to insert trailers for upcoming feature films from Paramount, Fox, Warner Bros. and The Weinstein Company.
