CBS Sports, Sports Illustrated to Share Print, Digital Content

New York - CBS-owned (NYSE: CBS) CBSSports.com and MaxPreps.com on Monday announced a partnership with The Sports Illustrated Group, that will see both parties share and distribute various digital and print assets. High school sports content from MaxPreps.com will now feature in SI.com's high school section. Several Sports Illustrated writers, including David Feherty and Seth Davis, will see their articles syndicated across CBSSports.com. SI.com will also promote live sports video featured on CBSSports.com.

Sports Illustrated Debuts $2.00 Swimsuit Issue iPhone App

New York - Time Warner's (NYSE: TWX) Sports Illustrated magazine on Wednesday launched a $2.99 application for Apple's (NASD: AAPL) iPhone -- coming soon for RIM's (NASD: RIMM) BlackBerry -- that gives users access to hundreds of photos from the magazine's annual swimsuit issue. The SI Swimsuit 2009 application, created by Azuki Systesms, also provides sports scores, schedules and team information, and lets users create sports calendars to track teams with customized swimsuit model photos for each month.

Sports Illustrated has published its annual Swimsuit Issue. I noticed the website in my weekly fast movers report and thought it could make a fun post. When I looked at the data however, something struck me as really odd. The top search term sending visits to the Swimsuit Issue website was "si swimsuit issue". The term had a huge spike this year but was relatively flat for the past two years. I had expected it to spike for each annual issue. What did this year's issue include, I wondered, to cause such a frenzy online.

High School Sports Social Network Takkle Secures Additional Funds

New York - Takkle, the provider of an online social network for high school sports, said on Monday that it has secured an undisclosed sum of additional financing, led by Sports Illustrated and the New York City Investment Fund.

Time Inc.'s Sports Illustrated Acquires FanNation.com

New York - Time Inc.'s Sports Illustrated magazine has announced that it will acquire FanNation.com, a provider of sports news and user-generated sports content, from Sports Technologies, Inc. (STI).
