U. of Illinois Taps UsableNet for Mobile Sports Service

New York - UsableNet, a provider of mobile services to universities, corporations and government agencies, said on Friday that the University of Illinois is using its Lift Mobile service to deliver content including live sports scores to students, alumni and fans. New York-based UsableNet said the Illini mobile site has attracted 30,000 visitors since it launched in September.

CBS SportsLine Launches Mobile Sports Alerts with Video

Bedford, Mass. - CBS Digital Media on Wednesday launched a new sports alerts service that sends breaking news, headlines and fantasy updates -- including video and pictures -- to subscribers' cell phones. CBS SportsLine To Go will cover all major sports and be available for 99 cents per month.

Sprint Stores to Offer Mobile ESPN Service

New York - Mobile ESPN, a mobile virtual network operator, announced on Thursday that its cell phone service will now be available for purchase from 575 Sprint retail stores.

Verizon Wireless to Offer Fans Mobile Chats from Boston Red Sox Dugout

Woburn, Mass. - Verizon Wireless announced on Wednesday that it will connect Boston Red Sox fans directly to the team's dugout through a series of moderated mobile chats beginning this week. The initial chat session, scheduled for Thursday, April 20th at 2:00 p.m., will be hosted by Red Sox manager Terry Francona.

Ignition Launches Action Sports Mobile Content Service

Las Vegas - Ignition, a start-up that will provide mobile content focused on skateboarding and other action sports, this week announced its launch with a stunt that saw pro skateboarder Danny Way break the skateboarding "bomb drop" Guinness World Record. Way performed a 28-foot freefall from the top of the Fender Stratocaster guitar atop the sign of the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas onto a skate ramp below. Ignition said is distributing its action sports mobile content through m-Qube, whose partners include Verizon, Cingular, Sprint and T-Mobile.
