Dallas - Video rental giant Blockbuster on Tuesday announced the launch of a free online promotional game inspired by the Stephen King film, "Mist," from The Weinstein Company. Players who win the game will get a sneak peak of an exclusive interview with King and the film's director, Frank Darabont, the full version of which will be available on the DVD version of the movie. New York - Scribner, author Stephen King's book publisher, said on Wednesday that it has hired mobile marketing firm Flytxt to promote King's upcoming book, "Cell." Consumers who sign up for the mobile Stephen King VIP Club via text message will receive access to mobile content such as King ringtones, wallpapers and a monologue podcast from the author.

Stamford, Conn. - Horror author Stephen King has partnered with the Weekly Reader, a newspaper distributed in schools to students, on a Web-based, serial storytelling collaboration. King penned the opening lines of a story called "The Furnace," which were posted to the Reader's "Weekly Writer" site in late September; since then hundreds of students have submitted ideas for the next paragraphs. The Weekly Writer program also includes online interviews with the author, and a forum where King will answer students' questions about writing. Over the coming school year, authors including R.L. Stine and Jane Yolen are slated to launch collaborative online writing projects with students through the Weekly Writer.
