Los Angeles - New data from Internet movie rental service Netflix suggests that digital distribution of movies is growing at a faster rate than Blu-ray disc adoption among its multi-million deep subscriber-base.

Sprint TV Service Adds Streaming Video from MTV Networks

Reston, Va. - Sprint Nextel, the recently merged wireless giant, said on Monday that music, comedy and entertainment programming from MTV Networks is now available on-demand to customers of its Sprint TV service. Under the deal, Sprint will stream clips of TV shows including "The Daily Show," "South Park" and "Punk'd," in addition to streaming radio stations programmed by MTV, VH1 and CMT.

Report: Internet Streaming Video Reaching More Mature Audiences

Reston, Va. - Internet streaming video is now reaching more mature audiences, according to new research from comScore Networks and StreamingMedia.com. The firms said that people ages 35-54 accounted for nearly half of all online video watch in August, and were 20% more likely to watch online video than the average Internet user, "Contrary to public perception, it’s not just 'college kids' or 'bleeding edge' Internet users who are streaming videos," said Erin Hunter, the senior vice president of comScore Networks Media and Entertainment Solutions. The firms said that more than 100 million users consume online digital media in the U.S. each month, representing almost 60% of the U.S. online population.

Report: 94 Million Americans Watched Streaming Video in June

Reston, Va. - More than 94 million people in the U.S., or 56% of the country's Internet users, viewed a streaming video online during the month of June, according to new statistics released by comScore Media Metrix. The firm said that over the three months ending in June, the average consumer viewed 73 minutes of streaming video content each month. "This research confirms that streaming video is now part of the web experience for a broad base of consumers," said Peter Daboll, the president and CEO of comScore Media Metrix. Male users, who represent half of the total online population, accounted for 61% of all video streamers.

Streaming Video Delivery Provider The FeedRoom Raises $5.1 Million

New York -- The FeedRoom, a provider of streaming media delivery solutions for broadcasters and other media companies, announced on Wednesday that it has raised $5.1 million in new funding. The investment round was led by BEV Capital, with participation from existing investors Warburg Pincus, Ridgewood Capital, Constellation Ventures, Circle-T Partners, the New York City Investment Fund, former CBS CEO Peter Lund and UBS Warburg's U.S. head of investment banking Ken Moelis. New York-based FeedRoom's clients include NBC's owned television stations, CBS Sports, AOL, Comcast, Reuters and Tribune Television -- in all a network of 170 sites that deliver over 1 million streaming video clips daily. The company will use the funds to expand its sales and marketing efforts.

Streaming Video Firm Optibase to Acquire Media 100 Assets for $2.5 Million

Marlboro, Mass. -- Optibase, a provider of streaming video technology based in Israel, has agreed to acquire the assets of Massachusetts-based Media 100, a developer of advanced media systems for content design, which is in Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Under the acquisition agreement, which is subject to court approval, Optibase will acquire substantially all the assets of Media 100 for $2.5 million, as well as provide up to $1 million of secured financing. "Following approval by the Court, Optibase intends to keep Media 100 activity intact as a unit in Optibase in order to continue the development, sales, and support of the Media 100 products," said Tom Wyler, CEO of Optibase, which is a Nasdaq-listed company.
