Embarq Taps Synacor, MediaNet for Unlimited Music Service

Overland Park, Kan. - Embarq, a provider of bundled voice, data and video services in 18 states, announced on Wednesday the launch of an unlimited music streaming and download service, which is powered by Synacor with 3 million tracks from MediaNet Digital. Embarq subscribers can also pay $9.95 per month for the ability to transfer songs to a portable player, and 99 cents per song to burn selections to CD.

Time Warner Cable Debuts MusicNet-based Digital Music Service

New York - Time Warner Cable, the nation's second-largest provider behind Comcast, on Wednesday launched two digital music services for subscribers powered by MediaNet Digital's MusicNet and Synacor. The subscription service and download store Road Runner Music will offer unlimited access to more than 3 million songs, radio stations and music videos from MusicNet for $9.95 per month; for $5 more, the Road Runner Music Portable service allows porting to up to three devices. Synacor will provide billing and other back-end services.

ISP Content, Technology Provider Synacor to Raise $82 Million in IPO

Buffalo, N.Y. - Synacor, a provider of online content and technology for Internet service providers, has filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission for its initial public offering of stock to raise an estimated $86 million.

Buffalo, N.Y. - Synacor, a provider of online content delivery services, announced on Tuesday that it has raised $17 million in its third round of venture capital financing. North Atlantic Capital led the investment round; Mitsui Technology Investment Group, Crystal Ventures, Advantage Capital Partners, Walden International, Intel Capital and Rand Capital SBIC also participated. New York-based Synacor services allow ISPs, cable TV providers and other companies to offer private-label portals featuring premium media content. Customers include EarthLink, Charter, Cox and RCN. The company will use the funds to accelerate the delivery of new products and expand into global markets.

Intel Digital Home Fund Invests in Zinio Systems, Synacor, Gteko

Santa Clara, Calif. -- Chipmaker Intel announced that it has provided venture capital investments to three firms as part of its Intel Digital Home Fund, which aims to foster development of home networking technologies. The investments, the financial terms of which were not disclosed, were provided to Zinio Systems, a publisher of digital versions of newspapers; Synacor, a provider of syndicated online content for ISPs; and Gteko, a developer of automated technical support functions for home networking. "These new investments were made to support widespread adoption, use and sharing of digital entertainment and information - including music, games, news and video - among multiple devices in the home and elsewhere," said Intel Capital vice president Scott Darling. "We plan to continue to invest next year in companies that enable PC and CE devices to work together easily and in companies that deliver premium content services over IP networks."

Paid Content Syndicator Synacor Raises New Funds

Buffalo, N.Y. -- Synacor, a provider of technology that allows ISPs to bundle digital media offerings and other online products with their access services, announced on Wednesday that it has raised a new round of financing from Advantage Capital Partners. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. New York-based Synacor offers online content from providers including Walt Disney Internet Group, Fox Sports and ABC News to providers of dial-up and broadband Internet access including Susquehanna Communications. The company will use the new funding to expand its customer base to larger MSOs and telephone companies looking to leverage the growing market for paid premium content and services.

Premium Multimedia Content Distributor Synacor Raises $6.5 Million

Buffalo, N.Y. -- Synacor, a provider of premium digital media content delivery for Internet access providers, announced on Tuesday that it has raised $6.5 million in its third round of venture capital financing. Participating in the round were new investors Access Technology Capital, Intel Capital and Rand Capital, and previous investors Walden International Investment Group and Crystal Venture Capital. New York-based Synacor provides ISPs, telcos and other access providers with subscription-based content including Fox Sports videos and online games, content from Walt Disney Internet Group and CinemaNow video-on-demand services. The company said Susquehanna Communications and FairPoint Communications will soon launch its subscription services for their customers. Synacor will use the new funding to continue the strategic expansion of its customer base to larger service providers.
