"Grand Theft Auto IV" First Week Sales: $500 Million, 6M Units

New York - Take-Two Interactive (NASD: TTWO) announced on Wednesday that its "Grand Theft Auto IV" broke all-time day one and week one sales records, posting 3.6 million global unit sales on April 29, with a retail value of $310 million, and 6 million in sales for its first week, with an estimated retail value of more than $500 million. "Grand Theft Auto IV's first week performance represents the largest launch in the history of interactive entertainment, and we believe these retail sales levels surpass any movie or music launch to date," said Take-Two chairman Strauss Zelnick.

New York - Video game publisher Take-Two Interactive (NASD: TTWO) has sued the Chicago Transit Authority and sales agent Titan Outdoor for pulling ads for its "Grand Theft Auto IV" game without any explanation, Reuters reports.

London - Take-Two Interactive's "Grand Theft Auto IV" broke the U.K. single-day video game sales record on Tuesday, selling around 609,000 copies, Reuters reported, citing data from the Entertainment Retailers Association. The previous record was held by an earlier iteration of the game, "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas," which sold 501,000 units on Oct. 29, 2004.

New York - Rockstar Games, a unit of Take-Two Interactive, said on Monday that it will ship "Midnight Club: Los Angeles" to retailers in North America on Sept. 9, and in Europe on Sept. 12. The fourth installment in the racing franchise was developed by Rockstar San Diego for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and the PSP.

New York - Video game publisher Take-Two Interactive (NASD: TTWO) said on Thursday that just 8% of its shareholders were in favor of Electronic Arts' (NASD: ERTS) $2 billion bid for the company, prompting EA to extend the deadline and slightly reduce its offer -- which Take-Two again rejected. "The minuscule number of shares tendered, as well as the strong vote in favor of the proposals presented at our annual meeting, offer indisputable evidence that our stockholders regard our efforts to enhance Take-Two's stockholder value as superior to the EA offer," Take-Two chairman Strauss Zelnick.

New York - Video game publisher Take-Two Interactive (NASD: TTWO) will allow players of its forthcoming "Grand Theft Auto IV" to download any of the over 150 songs they hear within the game from Amazon's (NASD: AMZN) MP3 store. Players will use an in-game cell phone to text a number and receive a "text" back with the artist and song title. Those signed up for the Rockstar Games Social Club will also receive an e-mail with links to purchase tagged songs from Amazon. The game is slated for release on April 29.

Pitchfork Curates Tracks for "Major League Baseball 2K8"

Chicago - Pitchfork Media, the online publication devoted to indie music, said on Monday that video game publisher Take-Two Interactive's (NASD: TTWO) 2K Sports asked them to select half of the music featured in its "Major League Baseball 2K8" game. Pitchfork's picks included tracks from Battles, Blitzen Trapper, Jay Reatard, the Cool Kids and Dinosaur Jr. The game is slated for release for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 & 2, PSP and Wii on March 4.

Los Angeles - Take-Two Interactive's (NASD: TTWO) "BioShock" for Xbox 360 has been named the 2007 Game of the Year by a group of several dozen video game journalists who put out the annual Game Critics Awards. "BioShock truly shocked, amazed, and pushed all sorts of boundaries for gaming. And while we felt it was 2007's best title, we're betting its influence will extend well beyond 2007," said Electronic Gaming Monthly editor in chief Dan Hsu. In second place, was Valve and Electronic Arts' "The Orange Box," a compilation that includes "Half-Life 2" and several expansions, while third place went to Activision's "Call of Duty 4," which was also the top-selling game of 2007. New York - A website has been set up to inform consumers of how to receive compensation resulting from the settlement of class action lawsuits against Take-Two Interactive (NASD: TTWO), over the "Hot Coffee" explicit sexual content included in the initial release of its "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas." Consumers who purchased the original version of the game may exchange their game disc for an edited version, while those with a receipt are eligible to receive up to $35 from the company.
