Targeted AdsAOL Europe Drops Yahoo for Google on Targeted AdsAuthored by Mark Hefflinger on October 20, 2004 - 8:19am.
Paris -- Time Warner's AOL Europe announced on Wednesday that it has dropped Yahoo-owned Overture as a provider of advertiser-sponsored search results in Europe, electing instead to go with Yahoo rival Google. AOL Europe currently has more than 6.3 million Internet access subscribers in Germany, France and the U.K. alone. Until now, AOL Europe had been using Google's search technology while at the same time using Overture for targeted advertising search results. "With this new agreement, AOL's European operations will benefit from the revenue opportunity, while its users will enjoy an enhanced online experience through the addition of relevant commercial information," said Google senior vice president Omid Kordestani. Financial terms of the deal, which will run for at least one year, have not been disclosed.
