Jim Samples, General Manager of Cartoon Network, Friday resigned under pressure following a promotional fiasco that snarled traffic in Boston and cost parent Turner Broadcasting $2 million to settle. A Turner spokeswoman declined to comment on whether Samples was forced to resign. Until a new head of the network is announced, the senior team members will report directly to Mark Lazarus, President of Turner Entertainment Group. Massive CEO, Mitch Davis, and President of New Media, Nichola Longano, will both leave the in-game ads specialist this month. The company was bought by Microsoft in May of 2006 to bring ads to the Xbox 360, and apply Massive technology to services such as Windows Live and MSN. Los Angeles - Time Warner's TBS network announced that it has partnered with online social network MySpace on a user-submitted stand-up comedy video contest. The "Stand Up or Sit Down Comedy Challenge" invites amateur or rising comics to submit video samples of their work via MySpace, whose members will pick the top finalists. The five finalists will then perform in a one-hour special hosted by George Lopez that will air on TBS, with MySpace voters to determine the winner of $50,000, a development deal and other prizes.

Atlanta - Time Warner's TBS network announced on Wednesday that it plans to launch an interactive TV quiz show from TV production company Endemol USA ("Deal or No Deal," Big Brother"), that viewers can participate in via phone, text-message or online. Premiering on Aug. 28, the two-hour "Midnight Money Madness" program will air at midnight Monday through Thursday, with separate versions produced for the East and West Coasts. The show will feature two emcees and no in-studio audience, with games interspersed with man-on-the-street segments and comedian drop-ins. Viewers can register their phone numbers for a chance to be called and play live on the air. Those who register will receive show-branded entertainment on their phones throughout the broadcast. Netherlands-based Endemol has been producing similar "Call TV" genre interactive TV shows for 10 years in 22 other countries; this is the company's first such production in the U.S.

Los Angeles - GoldPocket Interactive, a recent acquisition of Tandberg Television, announced on Thursday that it has created new interactive TV applications for the TBS series "Daisy Does America" and The History Channel special, "Boys' Toys." The TBS series will include mini-games and other elements that users can play along with in real-time on TBS.com, while viewers of the History Channel special will be able to interact both online and via cell phones in polls, trivia and wager challenges.

Atlanta -- Time Warner's Turner Broadcasting System (TBS) announced on Wednesday plans to launch a broadband video games-on-demand service. When it launches in the fall, GameTap will offer 300 of a total of 1,000 PC games TBS licensed from 17 publishers, in addition to original programming that may be viewed on a PC. Subscribers must first download the GameTap client software, and will then receive unlimited access to the service's slate of PC games. "Turner's lifeblood is creating branded networks and we are excited about the opportunity to create an immersive environment for games following our success with other branded environments like CNN, TCM and Cartoon Network," said Andrew T. Heller, president of domestic distribution for TBS. "With GameTap, we are bringing to games what we brought to cable television: compelling, branded environments where beloved properties live on."
