San Francisco - Blog search engine Technorati on Tuesday launched its own blog advertising network, Technorati Media, TechCrunch reported. The service has been in testing with a number of partner blogs, including BlogTalkRadio, BlogCritics, BlogTV and several other others that count a combined 17 million unique monthly users. Initial advertisers include Honda, Toyota, T-Mobile, Microsoft, Sony, Paramount and Universal Pictures. The network is currently only courting larger blogs, but is expected to open it up to any interested blog publishers in 2 or 3 months.

San Francisco - Technorati, a search engine for blogs, has called down $7.5 million of a $10 million fourth round of venture capital financing, PEHub.com reported, citing a regulatory filing.

There is a metric used for scholarly journals called the impact factor (IF).  In the world of medical and professional journals, the criteria for influence is citations.  Similar to how much of the social media world uses inbound links - the citation metric carries significant weight in scientific and academic communities.  It also raises significant debate from critics who feel it is an incomplete measure.  A few shortcomings of the impact factor include:

Mountain View, Calif. - Hoping to capitalize on the fervor surrounding Super Bowl XLI but unwilling and unable to shell out millions of dollars for network TV commercials, several Bay Area tech companies have decided to shoot their own low-budget ads and post them on YouTube, the video sharing site owned by Google.

The blog search engine Technorati, which currently reports tracking 50 million blogs, lists Mel Gibson as the number one blog subject being searched on Monday. You can see in this graph how the interest in the actor increased over the weekend after it became known that Gibson was arrested in Malibu early on Friday for driving under the influence.
