Redwood City, Calif. - Amobee Media Systems, a provider of mobile ad delivery technology, announced on Wednesday that it has raised an undisclosed sum of new funding, from investors including Motorola (NYSE: MOT), Cisco Systems (NASD: CSCO), Telefonica, Vodafone, Accel Partners, Globespan and Sequoia Capital.

Barcelona, Spain - Independent digital music distributor IODA on Tuesday announced a deal with Telefonica, that will see the Spain-based telecom make the IODA catalog of over 1 million tracks available to its subscribers in 24 countries. IODA tracks will be offered as ringtones, mastertones and full-track downloads, and will also be available on Telefonica's mobile music subscription services.

Madrid - Spain-based telecommunications firm Telefonica announced on Wednesday that it will distribute Apple's (NASD: AAPL) iPhone in 12 Latin American countries and the Czech Republic, expanding on previous deals and brining the total number of countries the company will offer the iPhone in to 16. The new Latin American agreement covers Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Urguay and Venezuela.

Los Angeles - Latin American wireless carrier Movistar, a unit of Telefonica, has launched what it says is the region's first unlimited mobile music download service in Chile, Billboard reports. The service costs about $7.50 per month and includes content from Universal Music and Warner Music Group, with a la carte mobile downloads available for about $2.10 each.

Brussels - Delivering a setback to the global music industry's legal campaign against illegal file-sharing, the European Court of Justice has ruled that EU countries need not disclose the identities of suspected file-swappers in the course of civil lawsuits. The court found in favor of Spanish telco Telefonica, which argued that EU rules only stipulate that file-swapper identities must be disclosed in criminal proceedings.

San Francisco - Decentral.tv, which operates the Kyte.tv service that lets users create mobile streaming TV channels, has raised $5.6 million in new financing from Spanish telcom Telefonica, NewTeeVee reports, citing sources close to the company.

Sunnyvale, Calif. - GestureTek, a developer of gesture-recognition technology used in camera phones for navigation and gaming applications, announced on Wednesday that it has received a minority investment from Spanish telco Telefonica.

The companies will also work together to further develop and commercialize GestureTek's applications, for both mobile and other platforms.

Luxembourg - An advocate general of the European Union's highest court has ruled that, unlike in the U.S., Internet service providers in Europe should not be required to turn over the identities of suspected file-swappers sued for copyright infringement in civil court, Ars Technica reported.

London - Spanish telecom Telefonica has sold its stake in the Dutch TV production company Endemol ("Big Brother," "Deal or No Deal") to a group led by former Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi's Mediaset, and Endemol founder John de Mol, in a deal valued at $4.6 billion, the Financial Times reported.

Los Angeles - I3media, a new company in Spain that will focus on new media research and development, has received about $46.4 million in initial backing from telcos Telefonica and Alcatel-Lucent, and production house Mediapro, Variety.com reported.

Sunnyvale, Calif. - Intertrust, a digital rights management (DRM) developer jointly owned by Sony and Philips, announced that it has partnered with Spain-based wireless carrier Telefonica to develop and test mobile digital rights management technologies. The companies plan to trial Marlin -- a DRM system developed jointly by Intertrust, Panasonic, Philips, Samsung and Sony -- with European mobile customers in the second quarter of 2007.

Paris - Telco equipment provider Alcatel-Lucent said on Thursday that it has partnered with wireless carrier Telefonica on a pilot project for mobile interactive multimedia services in Spain. Results from the six-month pilot of mobile TV, radio and music services, launched in October, are slated to be presented next week at the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona.
