Foundation 9 Merges Game Studios Shiny, The Collective

Irvine, Calif. - Video game developer Foundation 9 Entertainment (F9E) announced on Wednesday that it is combining its two Southern California studios, The Collective and Shiny Entertainment, into a single entity that will be housed in the company's new corporate headquarters in Irvine, California. "Bringing the Shiny and Collective teams together into one larger studio will give them the scale and resources needed to deliver top-notch franchise-based releases across multiple platforms," said F9E COO David Mann. The as yet unnamed studio will be headed by Shiny studio manager Michael Persson.

Los Angeles - The Collective, a movie production company ("The Nanny Diaries," "Are We Done Yet?") and talent management firm (Forest Whitaker, Eddie Izzard, Emile Hirsch), has acquired horror movie website Bloody-Disgusting.com, Variety reported.

The Collective to Publish "Harker" for Next-Gen Consoles in 2008

Newport Beach, Calif. - Video game developer The Collective said this week that it plans to publish "Harker" for next-generation consoles, based on the classic horror novel "Dracula." The game is slated for completion on 2008.

Independent Game Developers The Collective, Backbone Agree to Merger

Los Angeles -- Independent video game developers The Collective and Backbone Entertainment on Wednesday announced their plans to merge, creating Foundation 9 Entertainment, a company that will figure as the largest independent game developer in North America. Founded in 1997, Newport Beach, Calif.-based The Collective has developed titles based on media properties such as "Men in Black," "Indiana Jones" and "Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith." Emeryville, Calif.-based Backbone Entertainment was formed in 2003, from the merger of developers Digital Eclipse and ImaginEngine. The companies have collectively developed more than 250 titles, and together employ over 300 staff in North America. Foundation 9 Entertainment's first original title will be "Death Jr., to be published for the Sony PSP by Konami later this year.
