Verizon Releases Mobile Games Based on EA's "The Sims 2"

Bedminster, N.J. - Verizon Wireless on Wednesday launched a mobile version of Electronic Arts' "The Sims 2" game. The title is available for $3.99 for monthly access or $7.99 for unlimited use. A separate version that allows users to download content from their Sims PC game directly to their cell phones, "The Sims 2 Connected Edition," is also available for $4.99 for monthly access or $9.99 for unlimited use.

Depeche Mode Record "Simlish" Song for EA's "The Sims 2" Game

Redwood City, Calif. - Electronic Arts said on Thursday that it has released a version of Depeche Mode's song "Suffer Well" recorded by the band in the "Simlish" language spoken by the virtual characters in its "The Sims" online games. The Simlish-language version of "Suffer Well" is included in "The Sims 2 Open for Business," a recently released expansion pack, while a video for the song featuring Depeche Mode and gameplay from the title is available from EA and on the band's website.

Electronic Arts Ships "The Sims 2" for Consoles, Handhelds

Redwood City, Calif. - Electronic Arts on Monday announced the release of "The Sims 2" for PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube, Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS. The console and handheld titles are based on the PC version of "The Sims 2," the top-selling PC game of 2004; all versions have been developed by EA's Maxis studio. EA said additional versions of the game for Sony PSP and mobile phones will be released in coming weeks.

Electronic Arts Sells Record 1 Million Copies of "The Sims 2"in 10 Days

Redwood City, Calif. -- Video game publisher Electronic Arts announced that its "The Sims 2" PC game sold over one million copies worldwide in its first 10 days of release, marking the biggest PC game launch in the company's history. EA said that over half of the units were sold in Europe. "The Sims franchise has become a cultural phenomenon and The Sims 2 is a game that changes the way we think about our industry," said EA senior vice president of marketing Frank Gibeau. The game is the sequel to "The Sims," which is the top-selling PC game of all time. EA also offers a somewhat less popular online version of the game, "The Sims Online." Redwood City, Calif.-based Electronic Arts plans to release "The Urbz: Sims in the City" for PlayStation 2 in November, featuring a soundtrack produced by hip-hop group Black Eyed Peas.
