Burbank, Calif. - French electronics firm Thomson announced on Monday that its Burbank, Calif.-based Technicolor Digital Cinema unit has installed digital projection systems in several Mann Theatres locations in Los Angeles, as part of its North America beta test of digital cinema equipment. The test includes projectors at Grauman's Chinese Theatre and Mann Chinese 6 in Hollywood, as well as the Village, Bruin, Criterion 6 and Marketplace 4 theaters. Thomson aims to install digital projection systems in up to 5,000 screens over the next 3-4 years, and at least 15,000 screens in the U.S. and Canada over the next 10 years.

Access Integrated Technologies today announced that independent exhibitor Cinema West has signed a contract with the company's wholly owned subsidiary Christie/AIX, for the installation of state-of-the-art digital cinema systems for all 64 of its screens. It is the seventh chain to contract with AccessIT, raising total exhibitor commitment to its digital cinema deployment plan to over 3,000 screens.

New York - Screenvision, a provider of movie theater advertising services, announced on Tuesday an agreement with movie exhibitor Carmike Cinemas, which operates 292 theaters in 37 states. Under the deal, Screenvision will display its high-definition digital advertising pre-show on Carmike screens equipped with 2K digital cinema projectors. New York-based Screenvision said the Carmike agreement boosts to nearly 6,000 the total number of digital screens that feature its pre-show.

Proceeds will be used for Christie/AIX's nationwide conversion of 4,000 movie theater screens to a digital format. The company has already converted over 600 screens for six different movie exhibitors, and expects to complete the full rollout in 2007.
