ThePlatform Replaces Microsoft as AP Video Partner

New York - Newsgathering agency The Associated Press announced on Tuesday that it has selected thePlatform to power its Online Video Network, replacing previous partner Microsoft (NASD: MSFT). The network syndicates AP video content to more than 2,100 newspaper, broadcast and other media websites in the U.S., and claims 61 million monthly unique visitors. The AP told PaidContent that Microsoft will continue to serve ads for its Online Video Network.

Seattle - Broadband video management and publishing company thePlatform, a unit of Comcast (NASD: CMCSA), announced that it has acquired the assets of San Francisco-based Chirp Interactive, a provider of social media applications.

Seattle - Broadband video publishing firm thePlatform, a subsidiary of Comcast, said on Tuesday that Gannett (NYSE: GCI) will use its back-end management system for publishing online video on the websites for its TV stations, newspapers and other holdings. The company's technology will also serve as the central distribution hub to syndicate video content among Gannett's numerous destination websites, including USAToday.com.

BBC Global News Taps the Platform to Distribute YouTube Clips

Seattle - Broadband video application service provider thePlatform announced on Wednesday that BBC Global News will use its media management and publishing system to distribute short-form video content to YouTube. BBC Global News plans to publish up to 30 news clips per day on a dedicated YouTube channel. Seattle-based thePlatform was also tapped to power the forthcoming joint venture online video service from News Corp. and NBC Universal.

Spark Capital led the investment round; Generation Partners also participated. Seattle-based thePlatform's technology is used by nearly 50 content providers, including The Wall Street Journal Online, Comcast, Scripps Networks and National Geographic, to publish audio and video content over broadband and mobile networks. The company additionally announced that ABC News, Starz's Vongo and Amp'd Mobile have recently begun using its technology. ThePlatform will use the new funds to expand development of its digital media content management, syndication, advertising and mobile technologies.
