New York - Mobile entertainment portal Thumbplay on Wednesday announced the launch of a new full-song mobile music download service, which at launch offers more than 1.5 million songs from labels including Universal Music, EMI, and independents distributed by The Orchard and INgrooves. The store offers 99-cent MP3 song downloads to both mobile phones and PCs, as well as a $9.99 per month subscription service that provides 10 credits (1 credit = 1 song) towards any content offered on the service.

Thumbplay Launches Open Mobile Portal; Partners with Comcast

New York - Mobile entertainment distributor Thumbplay on Tuesday launched a beta of Thumbplay Open, an online marketplace where independent content owners can upload and sell their digital content. Users will generate $5 - $8 per new subscriber they attract to the Thumbplay service. Separately, New York-based Thumbplay said it has partnered with Comcast (NASD: CMCSA) to distribute mobile content through the company's Comcast.net site.

Thumbplay Gets Exclusive Jay-Z Ringtones

New York - Mobile entertainment publisher Thumbplay announced that it has partnered with Universal Music Group to offer a suite of exclusive Jay-Z ringtones and other mobile content. The ringtones include ten singles not previously made available, including "Can I Get A," "Encore" and "IZZO (H.O.V.A.)."

Thumbplay to Power Mobile Sites for Clear Channel Radio

New York - Mobile entertainment content distributor Thumbplay announced on Monday that it will create customized mobile content stores for the websites of more than 650 local Clear Channel Radio (NYSE: CCU) stations. New York-based Thumbplay has already created mobile sites for more than 100 radio stations, which allow listeners to purchase ringtones based on songs they hear on-air.

Thumbplay Receives $18 Million in Funding

iLike Adds Ringtone Purchase Links From Thumbplay

New York - Mobile entertainment retailer Thumbplay said on Wednesday that it has signed an agreement with Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, and will become the first direct-to-consumer mobile portal to sell games, ringtones and wallpapers based on Sony titles. The deal includes movies like "Open Season" and "Spider-Man 3," and TV shows including "Jeopardy," "Days of Our Lives" and "Different Strokes."

Softbank Capital led the investment round, in which i-Hatch Ventures also participated. Founded in 2004, New York-based Thumbplay sells ringtones, images, games and applications directly to consumers through its Thumbplay.com portal; the company's products are currently available for Cingular, AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, Nextel and Boost Mobile subscribers. The funds will be used to expand the company's direct-to-consumer mobile content sales.

Wireless Entertainment Start-Up ThumbPlay Raises Venture Capital Funds

New York -- ThumbPlay, a New York-based start-up developing wireless entertainment services, announced that it has raised an undisclosed amount of venture capital financing from i-Hatch Ventures and Redwood Partners. The company also announced a partnership with hip-hop artist Jay-Z, through which it will offer concertgoers attending shows on the rapper's current tour to send $0.99 text messages that are then displayed on large video screens installed at concert venues. In addition to the "Holla at Ya Boyz" text message application, ThumbPlay offers delivery technology for ringtones, games and other wireless content, including streaming multimedia on 2.5G and 3G networks.
