THX Introduces Certification Program for HD Displays

Denver - THX Ltd. on Thursday announced the introduction of a performance benchmark and certification program for high-definition displays. The THX Certified Display program will cover LCD, Plasma, DLP rear and front projection, LCoS, SED, Laser and other emerging applications. "Regardless of whether the product is an LCD display or 7.1 surround sound system, THX certification is about accurately representing sound and visuals the way filmmakers, TV directors, musicians or game developers envisioned," said Richard Dean, THX vice president of technology development.

THX Launches "Create a THX Trailer" Online Contest

San Rafael, Calif. - THX, a developer of standards for commercial cinemas, post-production studios, car audio and home entertainment systems, on Tuesday announced the launch of a "Create a THX Trailer" contest. The top 10 submissions, which must feature the THX logo and signature "Deep Note" audio effect -- played to showcase the sound quality in movie theaters -- will be featured on THX.com.
