Costa Mesa, Calif. - Tickets.com, a unit of Major League Baseball Advanced Media, announced this week that it has partnered with the Royal Oak Music Theatre in Michigan, to offer concertgoers the ability to purchase tickets that will be delivered in the form of a bar code to their mobile phones that can be presented for entry at the venue. Oakland, Calif. - Major League Baseball's Oakland A's said on Tuesday that they will launch a new service next week that allows fans to have their tickets delivered to their cell phones through a text or picture message. The message will include a unique barcode, which will be scanned at the ballpark. The A's were the first professional sports team in the U.S. to test the technology -- developed by Costa Mesa, Calif.-based Tickets.com -- last October, and will be one of three Major League Baseball teams to use it this season. Los Angeles - MovieTickets.com, a provider of online advance movie ticket sales, announced on Monday that it expects to sell a total of $10 million in advance tickets for screenings of "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire." The Los Angeles-based company, which sells tickets for 66 of the nation's theater chains, said that it sold more advance tickets on Friday, Nov. 18 than on any other day in company history.

New York -- Major League Baseball Advanced Media announced on Tuesday that it has agreed to acquire Tickets.com, a provider of online ticket sales, for $1.10 per share or about $66 million. The new media division of the league said it secured a credit line of $125 million from Bank of America and JPMorgan to cover costs associated with the transaction, which is expected to close in March. "As we progress in our ticketing efforts, it is essential for this industry to set the standard for our fans, providing them with the best experience not just on the field, but getting there as well," said Major League Baseball president Robert A. DuPuy. In addition to providing ticketing services for many pro ball teams, Costa Mesa, Calif.-based Tickets.com sells online tickets for the Smithsonian Institution, the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum and the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Turin.

Los Angeles -- In a deal that will effectively combine two of the industry's rivals, America Online's Moviefone showtimes and reviews site announced that it has partnered with rival MovieTickets.com to provide ticket sales for both its online and 777-FILM telephone services. As a result, Moviefone and MovieTickets.com now provide advance online movie ticket sales for 32 theater chains, double the amount of its nearest competitor, Fandango. The companies cited Feedback Research data in estimating that they will now account for 57% of all Internet movie ticket sales. In a separate announcement, Los Angeles-based MovieTickets.com said it signed an agreement to provide online ticket sales for Pacific Theaters, which owns 400 movie screens in Los Angeles, San Diego and Hawaii.
