"Darwinia" Takes Top Prize at 8th Independent Game Festival Awards

San Jose, Calif. - Independent video game developer Introversion's PC game "Darwinia" took three prizes, -- including the $20,000 Seamus McNally Grand Prize for Best Independent Game -- at the 8th Annual IGF Awards, held during the Independent Game Festival at the Game Developers Conference taking place this week in San Jose, Calif. The Independent Game Festival additionally recognized "Dad 'N Me" as Best Web Game, and "Braid" for Innovation in Design, while also doling out $10,000 in prizes to a number of the best amateur "mods" for existing video games.

Mountain View, Calif. - CNET News.com recently reported from MashupCamp, a contest where developers must merge two or more applications into a new software program. The winning project was 22-year-old Taylor McKnight's Podbop, which informs users of upcoming concerts in their area, and finds and downloads free, legal MP3s from the bands. Other popular mashups from the event included Chicagocrime.org, which combines Chicago crime statistics with Google Maps, and FlySpy, which provides a graphical view of the cheapest times to purchase airline tickets.
