Analysis: Virgin America Will Reinvent US Air Travel With (Social) Media and More

Authored by Rohit Bhargava on July 23, 2007 - 6:50am.

I2m_virginamerica1_2 Virgin is not in the business of music.  Or credit cards.  Or mobile phones.  Or space travel.  Though the brand has done remarkably well in translating its popularity from one business to the next - they are actually in the business of reinventing stagnant industries.  Just look at the track record of industries that they have entered and how they have done it.  Last week they announced the newest business they will try to reinvent, now that they finally have their long awaited approval in the US to start a new domestic airline.

Virtualization = Real Money?

Authored by Kurt Scherf on March 1, 2007 - 9:00am.
I had a really curious experience the other day with a virtual hotel concierge! Instead of posting a live body behind the desk, the hotel in which we were staying had a flat-screen television behind the desk with a video feed. On the screen was the concierge, working in a remote office. If you had a request for her, she would detect your presence with the camera in the hotel and begin a dialogue.

Authored by Peter Krasilovsky on December 6, 2006 - 10:45am.
IAC’s Ask.com rolled out AskCity this week in a bid to use IAC’s content to differentiate itself from Google, Yahoo, MSN and AOL. The site, which succeeds AskLocal, proves to be an excellent local research tool and effectively integrates listings, reviews and other content from IAC sites such as CitySearch and evite, as well as non-IAC sites (It is a little weird, however, that AskCity is not the URL, but rather a sub-site within Ask).

The Fine Taste of Flavorpill

Authored by Scott Goldberg on October 3, 2006 - 7:48am.

There’s no shortage of information today, and for anything you’re after there’s likely to be an abundance of options.  That’s great if you want a car deal, a news story, or an airline ticket, but when it comes to entertainment, especially in large cities like New York and Los Angeles, it’s hard to sift through the B.S. and find something interesting.  For one, the listings are too often the same.  I’ve heard or read at least a hundred times in the last month that The Killers have a new album and will be playing at the Wiltern in LA on October 6 and 7.  You begin to think LA doesn’t have much happening and that its entertainment sources are becoming stale, unless of course you want to see Ashton Kutcher’s latest attempt at serious acting in The Guardian.
