New York - Time Warner's AOL on Thursday announced the launch of new video portal sites in Canada, India and Taiwan, with plans to expand with additional sites in the U.K., France and Germany in the fall. San Francisco - Video search engine Truveo said on Thursday that its index now includes more than 100 million online videos -- a 20-fold increase from a year ago. Burlingame, Calif. - AOL said on Wednesday that it has launched its Truveo video search engine in eight countries, including France, Germany, India, Japan, Korea, Spain, Taiwan and the U.K. The company also announced plans to launch additional sites for Australia, Brazil, Italy, Mexico, The Netherlands, Russia and Turkey over the next two month. Dulles, Va. - AOL said on Thursday that it has launched a new version of video site Truveo.com. The company, which acquired Truveo over a year ago, said that it has completely rebuilt the site, which features both user-generated clips and professionally produced content. In an attempt to avoid the kinds of copyright issues that have plagued sites like Google's YouTube in recent months, AOL said that Truveo.com in many cases will direct users to content owners' sites to view videos. Truveo also powers video search tools for AOL's properties, as well as Microsoft, CNET's Search.com, Excite and numerous other sites. Dulles, Va. - In another step to beef up its video offerings, America Online said on Tuesday that it has acquired California-based Truveo, the developer of a video search engine, for an undisclosed sum. It marks AOL's fifth acquisition since the beginning of 2005. The company said that it plans to integrate the search engine into its free AOL.com portal. Truveo launched in early 2004 and last fall released its technology, which is designed to continuously scour video content sites and automatically seek out video files and related information. AOL first entered the video search engine arena with its acquisition of Seattle-based Singingfish in late 2003, and launched its own video search tool last June.
