Jim Samples, General Manager of Cartoon Network, Friday resigned under pressure following a promotional fiasco that snarled traffic in Boston and cost parent Turner Broadcasting $2 million to settle. A Turner spokeswoman declined to comment on whether Samples was forced to resign. Until a new head of the network is announced, the senior team members will report directly to Mark Lazarus, President of Turner Entertainment Group.

Ericsson, Turner Partner on Broadcast Content for Mobile Phones

Stockholm - Swedish telecom equipment maker Ericsson announced on Monday that it has partnered with Turner Broadcasting System, to develop Turner's Internet, broadcast news and entertainment content for mobile devices.

Turner, Marketer Agree to Pay $2 Million to Settle Bomb Scare Issue

Boston - Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley announced on Monday that state and local officials have reached a settlement with Turner Broadcasting System and marketing firm Interference Inc., under which the two companies will pay $2 million in restitution to the communities and agencies affected by last week's electronic outside advertising blitz for "Aqua Teen Hunger Force" that led to a bomb scare in and around the city of Boston.

Turner to Debut New Broadband Comedy Network in January

Sony Pictures Television International (SPTI) announced yesterday that Kim Hatamiya has been promoted to Executive Vice President, Marketing. Based at SPTI's headquarters in Culver City, California, Hatamiya heads marketing for the division of Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) that oversees all television and on-demand businesses outside the United States. Hatamiya reports to Michael Grindon, SPTI's president, who made the announcement. She joined SPTI in April 2003 as Senior Vice President, Marketing.

Comcast, Turner Back User-Created Ad Platform Developer ViTrue

Atlanta - ViTrue, the developer of a user-created advertising platform, announced on Tuesday that it has secured a round of strategic funding from Comcast Interactive Capital and Turner Broadcasting. The amount of the investment was not provided. Previous investors included General Catalyst Partners and ViTrue's founder and CEO, Reggie Bradford. The Atlanta-based company's system provides tools for consumers to create, produce and upload video advertisements, as well as the infrastructure to help companies align the content with their marketing campaigns.

Turner's GameTap Adds "Sam & Max" Webcomic Series

Atlanta - Turner Broadcasting's GameTap announced on Thursday that it will add episodes of developer Telltale Games' "Sam & Max" webcomic series. The episodes will be included in GameTap's $9.95 monthly subscription price, and will also be made available for purchase 15 days after each episode's debut on GameTap.

Video-Sharing Site Revver Gets Investments from Comcast, Turner

Los Angeles - Revver, a video-sharing site that compensates uploaders of popular videos with a cut of ad revenue, announced on Monday that it has expanded its second round of venture capital financing with new investments from Comcast Interactive Capital and Turner Broadcasting.

GameTap Adds Konami Titles to Subscription Games Service

Atlanta - GameTap, the subscription games and entertainment service from Turner Broadcasting, announced on Monday that it has signed a licensing agreement with Japanese game developer Konami. Under the deal, Konami titles including "Frogger," "Contra Hard Corps" and "Castlevania" will be added to GameTap's library of nearly 600 game titles.

Ford, Turner Media Group Create Interactive Ads for DISH Network

Dearborn, Mich. - Ford Motor Company announced on Wednesday that it partnered with interactive TV advertising firm Turner Media Group to create an interactive ad campaign for satellite TV provider EchoStar's 12 million DISH Network subscribers.

Turner Slashes GameTap Subscription Price to $9.95, Adds New Content

Atlanta - Turner Broadcasting announced on Wednesday that it has slashed the price of its GameTap broadband games and entertainment service from $15 to $9.95 per month, and also added new channels and shows. The service now offers more than 400 games, as well as a new component called GameTap TV that includes episodes of "Space Ghost Coast to Coast," and channels featuring music videos, animation, and game-themed original programming.

Turner's GameTap Service, Logitech in Marketing Pact

Atlanta - GameTap, the broadband video game entertainment network launched by Turner Broadcasting, on Tuesday announced a marketing alliance with Logitech, a manufacturer of PC and gaming accessories. Under the deal, Logitech customers will be offered a free two-week trial of GameTap, while GameTap will designate Logitech products as the preferred controllers for its premium PC games service.

Turner's GameTap Adds Titles from 3 New Game Publishers

Atlanta - GameTap, the broadband video game service launched by Turner Broadcasting, announced on Thursday that it has signed agreements to add more than 150 new titles to the service from three game publishers. Interplay Entertainment, SNK Playmore USA and Riverdeep will offer titles including "Ikari Warriors," "Virtua Tennis," "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego" and "Oregon Trail" to GameTap. The $14.95 per month GameTap service also recently enabled subscribers to play the PC games on their televisions.

Turner's GameTap, Intel Partner to Move PC Games to TVs

Las Vegas - GameTap, the broadband gaming and entertainment service launched by Turner Broadcasting, announced on Friday that it partnered with Intel to allow GameTap subscribers to play games on their televisions through Windows XP Media Center PCs with Intel Viiv connectivity technology. Using wireless USB peripheral game controllers, GameTap subscribers can now play over 300 games from their TVs, including "Pong," "Pac-Man," "Myst" and "Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell."

Turner Launches GameTap Broadband Video Game Service

Atlanta - Time Warner's Turner Broadcasting System (TBS) on Monday announced the official launch of its GameTap broadband video game and entertainment service. The service will initially offer unlimited access to 300 games from 24 publishers, along with original gaming-themed video programming, in a subscription format for $14.95 per month. Publishers providing titles for GameTap include Electronic Arts, Capcom, Take-Two Interactive, Activision, Atari, Sega, Midway, Ubisoft and Namco.
