Jim Samples, General Manager of Cartoon Network, Friday resigned under pressure following a promotional fiasco that snarled traffic in Boston and cost parent Turner Broadcasting $2 million to settle. A Turner spokeswoman declined to comment on whether Samples was forced to resign. Sony Pictures Television International (SPTI) announced yesterday that Kim Hatamiya has been promoted to Executive Vice President, Marketing. Based at SPTI's headquarters in Culver City, California, Hatamiya heads marketing for the division of Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) that oversees all television and on-demand businesses outside the United States. Hatamiya reports to Michael Grindon, SPTI's president, who made the announcement. She joined SPTI in April 2003 as Senior Vice President, Marketing. Atlanta - ViTrue, the developer of a user-created advertising platform, announced on Tuesday that it has secured a round of strategic funding from Comcast Interactive Capital and Turner Broadcasting. The amount of the investment was not provided. Previous investors included General Catalyst Partners and ViTrue's founder and CEO, Reggie Bradford. The Atlanta-based company's system provides tools for consumers to create, produce and upload video advertisements, as well as the infrastructure to help companies align the content with their marketing campaigns.

Atlanta - Turner Broadcasting's GameTap announced on Thursday that it will add episodes of developer Telltale Games' "Sam & Max" webcomic series. The episodes will be included in GameTap's $9.95 monthly subscription price, and will also be made available for purchase 15 days after each episode's debut on GameTap.

Atlanta - Turner Broadcasting announced on Wednesday that it has slashed the price of its GameTap broadband games and entertainment service from $15 to $9.95 per month, and also added new channels and shows. The service now offers more than 400 games, as well as a new component called GameTap TV that includes episodes of "Space Ghost Coast to Coast," and channels featuring music videos, animation, and game-themed original programming.

Using wireless USB peripheral game controllers, GameTap subscribers can now play over 300 games from their TVs, including "Pong," "Pac-Man," "Myst" and "Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell."

The service will initially offer unlimited access to 300 games from 24 publishers, along with original gaming-themed video programming, in a subscription format for $14.95 per month. Publishers providing titles for GameTap include Electronic Arts, Capcom, Take-Two Interactive, Activision, Atari, Sega, Midway, Ubisoft and Namco.
