Yahoo to Offer Ad-Supported Casual Games; Teams With Turner

Sunnyvale, Calif. - Yahoo (NASD: YHOO) said on Thursday that it plans to offer more than 400 ad-support casual game titles by the end of this year. The games, available as free downloads, will include titles more than two dozen publishers, and be integrated with video ads from Double Fusion and NeoEdge.

Former Live Nation Exec Named Head of NBA Digital

Atlanta - NBA Digital, a partnership between the pro basketball league and Turner Broadcasting, said on Monday that it has named Bryan Perez as senior vice president and general manager. The former CEO of Live Nation's Global Digital unit, Perez will oversee NBA.com, WNBA.com, NBA TV, and the league's other broadband and mobile services.

Motricity Renews Mobile Content Deal with Turner

Durham, N.C. - Motricity, a provider of mobile content services, announced on Tuesday that it has signed a contract renewal with the cable TV network Turner Broadcasting. "The deal between the companies continues Turner's aggressive plans to provide interactive television and brand extension services through the mobile channel," the company said. Terms were not disclosed.

Alyssa Milano to Cover Baseball on TBS Broadband Channel

Los Angeles - Turner Broadcasting's TBS has signed actress Alyssa Milano ("Charmed," "Who's the Boss?") to cover baseball at its TBS Hot Corner broadband channel on MLB.com, TVWeek.com reported. The actress also maintains a popular blog on MLB.com, and launched a baseball-themed clothing line. Beginning next week, TBS Hot Corner will feature Milano offering regular reports such as interviews with players, coaches and fans.

Turner Debuts Free, Ad-Supported Version of GameTap

Atlanta - Turner Broadcasting's GameTap broadband games and entertainment service announced on Monday the launch of a new free, ad-supported version of the service it will make available to users beyond North America. The free version of GameTap will feature a rotating sample of the service's library of more than 900 game titles, as well as access to hundreds of GameTap TV streaming videos. Subscribers in the U.S. and Canada receive ad-free, full access to all of the service's titles.

Adult Swim Offers Free Downloadable Indie Sampler Album

- Turner Broadcasting's Adult Swim animated TV division has launched a digital music promotion called "Warm & Scratchy," where users can download a free sampler album of indie music, as well as post the playlist to their blogs or social network profiles. The sampler offers tracks from artists including TV On the Radio, Les Savy Fav, The Rapture, Broken Social Scene and Liars.


Joost Expands Beta of Streaming TV Service, Adds Turner Programming

New York - Joost, a peer-to-peer-based, streaming TV service designed by the creators of Kazaa and Skype, on Tuesday expanded its beta test and announced that campaigns from 32 advertising partners will launch on Joost this month. Joost beta testers now have an unlimited number of invitations to join the beta they can send to friends and family. The company also announced that Turner Broadcasting will distribute content on Joost, including programming from its CNN and Adult Swim networks. Programming from Hasbro, the NHL, Sports Illustrated and Sony Pictures Television is slated to become available later this month.

Turner's GameTap Debuts "Day-and-Date," Retail and Ad-Supported Titles

Atlanta - Turner Broadcasting announced on Tuesday that it will introduce new features at its GameTap subscription-based broadband games and entertainment site, to include the ability for subscribers to begin playing games on the same day they become available for sale at retail, or purchase them outright directly from GameTap. The first such "day-and-date" title available on GameTap will be Eidos' "Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Anniversary." The service will also launch a rotating selection of free, ad-supported games. GameTap said its subscribers played more than 20 million games in 2006, or more than 54,000 per day.

Microsoft, Adult Swim Partner on Upfront Presentation, Zune Promotion

New York - Microsoft launched a unique promotion this week for its Zune digital media players, partnering with Turner Broadcasting's Adult Swim to distribute the devices to television media buyers, executives and press at the network's Upfront advertising presentation. Guests at an Adult Swim party were provided with 30GB Zune players that came pre-loaded with a video presentation hosted by Turner Classic Movies' Robert Osborne, in addition to full episodes from new and returning series, original music and still photos.

Cartoon Network to Offer Cartoon Character Ringtones

Los Angeles - Cartoon Network New Media, a unit of Time Warner's Turner Broadcasting, on Wednesday announced plans to introduce CallToons, a mobile application bundle that will include cartoon character-specific wallpapers, ringtones and other content.

Verizon Adds Mobile Content from "The O.C.," Turner Broadcasting

Las Vegas - Verizon Wireless on Thursday announced a number of new content additions to its mobile entertainment service, V CAST VPak, which is offered to subscribers with compatible phones for an extra $15 per month. The company partnered with Fox's "The O.C." to develop a series of animated webisodes based on Seth Cohen's own "Atomic County" comic from the show, as well as "The O.C." ringtones and games. It will also add video clips from Turner Broadcasting's Cartoon Network, Adult Swim and Turner Classic Movies. Other new video content for Verizon subscribers includes clips from Heavy.com, a broadband entertainment site that claims 10 million monthly viewers; JibJab, the comedy site behind the "This Land is Your Land" animated election parody; and short film and animation distributor Atom Entertainment.
