UltraStar Cinemas Claims First Theater to Debut All-Digital Screenings

San Diego - Movie theater chain UltraStar Cinemas announced on Tuesday that its TownGate 8 theater in Moreno Valley, Calif. will this week become the first in the world to have all screens showing films in digital format. Beginning on Friday, the theater will screen "Mission Impossible III," "Scary Movie 4," "Ice Age 2," "Stick It," "Silent Hill," "RV" and "The Sentinel" in the Pure Digital Cinema format. "It will be a very different experience to be in our TownGate projection rooms with all the 35mm projectors and film platters silent," said UltraStar's John Ellison, Jr.

UltraStar Cinemas First Exhibitor to Upgrade All Screens to Digital

San Diego - UltraStar Cinemas, a Southern California theater operator with 102 screens, announced on Friday that it has become the first exhibitor in the nation to equip all of its screens with digital cinema projection systems. San Diego-based UltraStar partnered with Access Integrated Technologies and Christie Digital Systems to equip its screens with digital systems. The company said it has already screened alternative entertainment such as a live Duran Duran concert and the Super Bowl via its digital system, and also plans to project the Academy Awards live in some locations.
