London - Major record label Universal Music Group has announced plans to discount the European digital album prices for some of its back catalog releases, Reuters reported. Beginning Nov. 1, more than 1,500 albums will be reduced in price at U.K. retailers like iTunes to between about $8.89 and $10.43, down from between $12.70 and $15.20.

London - Universal Music Group/Island Records recording artists Keane will ship the first single to be released on USB flash drives, the BBC Online reported. The U.K. band will sell 1,500 512MB flash drives containing MP3 copies of its song "Nothing In My Way" later this month for about $7.50. "We're definitely testing the waters," Island Records general manager Jon Turner told the BBC. The single is not the first USB drive release, however, as Canada's Barenaked Ladies offered an album on a USB drive last year.

Los Angeles - Major record label Universal Music Group has filed copyright infringement lawsuits against two websites - Bolt.com and Grouper.com - that feature music videos and other copyrighted content posted by users, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Universal's lawsuits, filed in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, seek injunctions against Bolt and Grouper and the same $150,000-per-instance damages claimed in the record labels' lawsuits against the original Napster file-sharing service, and could run into the millions of dollars.

Emeryville, Calif. - MobiTV, a provider of a live mobile TV delivery service for cell phones, announced on Tuesday that it has partnered with major record label Universal Music Group, to create four new 24-hour mobile music video channels. Over 1,100 music videos from more than 375 Universal artists will be featured on the channels, which will be organized into genres such as hip hop, pop, alternative and metal.
