Santa Monica, Calif. - ArtistDirect, an online network focused on music and film, announced on Monday that it has signed lyrics licensing agreements with Universal Music Publishing and EMI Music Publishing, and plans to launch a new song lyrics section on its site in the fall.

San Diego - Slacker, the maker of a portable music player and corresponding radio service, announced on Tuesday that it has signed agreements with EMI Music Publishing, Sony/ATV Music Publishing (NYSE: SNE), Universal Music Publishing Group and Warner/Chappell Music (NYSE: WMG), which will allow users to transfer songs from its online radio service to Slacker portable players. The company said the deals were completed before it launched its Slacker Portable hit the market in November. Slacker lets users create interactive radio stations; songs from the stations are then periodically updated on the portable player. A premium version that allows users to permanently store songs is also available starting at $7.50 per month.

New York - SpiralFrog, the developer of an ad-supported, free music download service, announced on Thursday that it has signed new licensing agreements with Universal Music Publishing and Universal Music Canada. The company already has a deal in place with Universal Music Group. SpiralFrog, which is currently beta testing its service, has also secured license agreements with EMI Music Publishing, KOCH Records, BMI and others, making for an available library of over 700,000 songs. The service offers free, DRM-wrapped songs that remain available for 30 days, a term that can be lengthened by answering survey questions.
