Bethesda, Md. - WEbook, an online platform for authors, editors and writing groups to collaboratively create written works, on Wednesday launched a public beta test of its website. The company, backed by Greylock Partners Israel and several individual investors, is the brainchild of Itai Kohavi, an author of two novels and one children's book, who serves as chairman. WEbook also announced the release of "Pandora," its first published book, collaboratively written and edited by 17 alpha members of the online community.

iKlax Media Releases Multi-track Interactive Audio Format

Biarritz, France - iKlax Media on Tuesday announced the development of a new interactive audio format, iKlax, which enables listeners to select among the various tracks in a particular recording for listening. Artists can use iKlax Creator to create multi-track versions of their songs that listeners can then manipulate and listen to different versions. The creators said that their temporarily free software has been downloaded 10,000 times in the past two weeks, adding that 500 artists have downloaded iKlax Creator.

Yahoo's Flickr to Test Video Service in April

San Francisco - Yahoo's (NASD: YHOO) Flickr photo-sharing service intends to branch out into video with the beta launch of a new Flickr video service next month, CNET News.com reported. The company told CNET that Flickr Video will not replace Yahoo Video, and that the service is not meant to compete with YouTube. Flickr director of product management Kakul Srivastava told CNET the service has to appeal in an "authentic" way to the Flickr community.

Dailymotion Employs Video Fingerprinting Copyright Filter

Paris - Video-sharing site Dailymotion announced on Monday that it has implemented digital video fingerprinting copyright filtering technology from INA across its entire site. The system will be used with the site's professionally produced content, as well as user-generated videos uploaded through the company's MotionMaker program. In addition to INA's technology, Dailymotion said it also employs a hashing system, audio fingerprinting, and blocks videos that have already been removed from the site.

DivX to Shut Down Video Hosting Site Stage6.com

San Diego - DivX, a developer of video compression technology and provider of video distribution services, announced on Monday that it will shut down Stage6.com, a service that let users upload and store videos encoded in its DivX format. Video already uploaded to the site will be available for viewing and download through Feb. 28. The company said the move allows it to focus on its DivX licensing business while also continuing to power distribution of DivX content on third-party sites.
