San Francisco - Video game publisher and developer Valve's "Portal" took home the title of Game of the Year last night at the Game Developers Choice Awards, held during the annual Game Developers Conference in San Francisco.

Electronic Arts, Valve Detail Release Plans for "Half-Life 2" Expansion

Redwood City, Calif. - Electronic Arts on Wednesday announced release plans for the next installment of developer Valve's "Half-Life" game franchise. "The Black Box" will ship for PC, and include "Half-Life 2: Episode 2," "Portal" and "Team Fortress 2". A separate bundle, "The Orange Box," will ship for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and include all of the elements of The Black Box, plus the original "Half-Life 2" and "Half-Life 2: Episode One." Both bundles are scheduled for release in the fall of 2007.

IGA Inks Online Ad Deal With Valve, Publisher of "Counter-Strike" Game

New York - IGA Worldwide, the provider of an in-game advertising network, announced on Tuesday that it has signed an agreement with Valve, to serve in-game ads in the game publisher's online action game, "Counter-Strike." "Counter-Strike rivals many of the current top ten watched shows on American televisions.

Empire Interactive to Sell PC Game Downloads on Steam

Boca Raton, Fla. - U.K. video game publisher Empire Interactive, which was recently acquired by Florida-based Silverstar Holdings, announced on Thursday that it will begin distributing its titles on the Steam digital distribution service for PC games. The first three Empire titles to be made available for purchase and download via Steam will be "Flat Out II," "Vegas Tycoon" and "Ghost Master." Strategy First, another of Silverstar's game studios, also publishes titles on Steam.

Majesco to Digitally Distribute PC Games Using Valve's Steam

Edison, N.J. - Video game publisher Majesco on Thursday announced a deal with developer and game technology firm Valve, to distribute Majesco PC game titles using Valve's Steam broadband gaming platform. Initial titles offered through Steam will include "BloodRayne 2" and "Advent Rising" ($19.99 each) and "BloodRayne 1" ($9.99). Developer Double Fine Productions' "Psychonauts" will be offered via Steam in early October.

Game Developer Valve Wins Contract Dispute with Vivendi Over Cybercafes

Kirkland, Wash. -- Video game developer Valve Software announced that the U.S. District Court in Seattle has ruled that publishing partner Vivendi Universal Games breached its contract with the company when it distributed Valve's PC games in cybercafés around the world. The court did not rule on what, if any, damages to award Valve. "We're happy the court has affirmed the meaning of our publishing contract," said Valve CEO Gabe Newell. "This is good news for Valve and its cybercafé partners around the world." Valve and Vivendi have several other lawsuits pending, including a charge from Vivendi that Valve violated its publishing agreement with Vivendi by distributing its "Half-Life 2" game through an online system in addition to in stores, where Vivendi would share in profits.
