Richmond, Va. - In a win for Verizon, the Virginia House of Delegates on Monday passed compromise legislation designed to hasten competition for cable television services in the state. The bill, already passed by the Senate, would help Verizon more rapidly launch its FiOS TV service in the state, while at the same time give local governments the authority to ensure that the company doesn't solely target wealthy neighborhoods. Verizon already offers its Internet-based FiOS TV service in parts of Northern Virginia.

New York - Verizon announced on Friday that it has signed agreements to distribute Gemstar-TV Guide's TV Guide Channel and TVG Network, and Mark Cuban's HDNet all-high-definition network, on its FiOS TV broadband television service. Recently launched in Texas, Verizon expects to offer FiOS TV to 3 million subscribers by the end of the year.

New York - Verizon on Thursday announced a number of new carriage agreements with content providers for its FiOS broadband digital TV service. New signings included The Weather Channel, Weatherscan, Lifetime, HSN, Jewelry Television and Ovation. Verizon's FiOS TV launched earlier this week in Keller, Texas; the company hopes to make the service available to 3 million customers by the end of the year.

Fairfax, Va. - Verizon announced on Tuesday that it has been granted approval from the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors to offer its broadband FiOS TV service to the county's 351,000 households. An alternative to cable or satellite TV, the FiOS service will offer over 300 channels delivered over Verizon's fiber-optic network, and will allow customers to purchase bundled TV, phone and Internet service.
