Vevo to Debut Music Video Portal on Dec. 8

New York - Vevo, the music video joint venture between Sony Music and Universal Music that will use technology from Google's (NASD: GOOG) YouTube, is set to launch on Dec. 8, the company announced via its Twitter feed. The labels hope the standalone site will help them further monetize their music videos -- which are the most-watched content on all of YouTube.

New York - Vevo, the music video portal joint venture between Sony (NYSE: SNE) Music and Universal Music Group, has received an investment from Abu Dhabi Media Company, All Things D reports. While terms of the deal were not disclosed, the report cites a source who says the joint venture was valued at $300 million for the deal.

- Universal Music Group announced on Thursday that fellow major record label Sony (NYSE: SNE) Music Entertainment has been added to its VEVO music video site partnership with YouTube (NASD: GOOG). Announced in April, the ad-supported VEVO will operate both a standalone site featuring music videos and other video content from Universal and Sony artists, as well as a VEVO YouTube channel and branded embedded player.

New York - Major record label Universal Music Group and Google's (NASD: GOOG) YouTube on Thursday announced a partnership to launch VEVO, an advertising-supported premium music and video site. Set to launch later this year, VEVO.com will host official music videos from Universal Music artists, in addition to artist-generated and user-generated videos; the same content will be available on a VEVO-branded YouTube channel, and through a VEVO-branded embeddable player.

Los Angeles - Major record label Universal Music Group is close to negotiating a deal to create an online repository for major label music videos, and is working with YouTube (NASD: GOOG) on the project, codenamed "Vevo," CNET News.com reported, citing sources close to the matter. Universal already claims the most-trafficked music video channel on YouTube, with 3.5 billion views, and has previously stated that it is generating "tens of millions" of revenue from the site.
